Women’s Basketball: Santa Ana Gets Back On Winning
Track Behind Hunter’s School-Record 41 Points
SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College returned to its winning ways behind sophomore guard
Ahkiah Hunter who set a new school record with 41 points in the Dons’ 77-51 win over visiting
Golden West College in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) women's basketball action, Friday.
Hunter broke the previous mark of 40 set by Tiffany Wells during the 2001-02 season against Long
Beach City College.
The former Ocean View High School-product finished 17 of 24 from the field including 2 of 2
from three point range and made 5 of 9 free throws. She also had a team-high seven rebounds and
eight steals to go along with her 41 points.
Whitney Ligon was also in double figures for Santa Ana with 13.
With the win the Dons (13-11, 4-4) snapped a three-game losing streak while keeping the
Rustlers winless in conference play. The loss drops Golden West to 2-19 overall and 0-8 in the
league.
Ashley Carr scored a team-high 20 points for the Rustlers followed by Biava Arganda who
added 13. Carr connected on 9 of 14 from the field and 1 of 2 at the free throw line while Arganda
made 4 of 15 field goals and all five of her free throws. Arganda just missed a double-double adding
nine rebounds.
Santa Ana jumped out to a 43-26 halftime lead and never looked back. The Dons made 48
percent (16 of 33) of their shots in the first half while limiting Rustlers to just 26 percent shooting (9
of 34).
