Pasqualucci This is a teaching hospital were I worked in all anaesthetic sub-specialties in a Consultant position. We had all main surgical specialties (abdominal, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, ear nose throat, plastic, urology, obstetrics and gynecology) except cardiac and neuro. I performed anesthesia for pediatric inpatients (mainly otorhinolaryngologic procedures, plastic, maxillofacial and basic pediatric surgery) and outpatients (sedation for CT scan, NMR). Apart from obstetric emergencies (~500 cesarean sections/year), transplantation (liver and kidneys) and abdominal/thoracic/vascular emergencies one day out of nine, we work mainly on elective cases (~7500 anaesthetics/year), as we did not join the accident and emergency department. I have experience in insertion and management of epidural analgesia for delivery. I also work in our postoperative ICU (six ventilated beds, invasive cardiovascular monitoring, nitric oxide, CVVHCVVHD facilities). Dr Stefano Donato – Curriculum Vitae pag. 33 I developed a postoperative pain service that I managed from April 1998 to December 2000. During this time I developed postoperative pain protocols that include use of intrathecal morphine, continuous epidurals and PCA in the surgical wards. As a teaching hospital I worked with and monitored every day resident’s duties in the theatre and ambulatory activity. Dec 00 – Jul 01 MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES BELGIUM, BAUCAU GENERAL HOSPITAL (EAST TIMOR) Head of mission, Mr. D. Curtis I worked, as the sole anesthesiologist of the hospital, in theatre and emergency room. I performed “field anaesthesia” with limited resources for elective/emergencies cases including from premature, newborn resuscitation after cesarean section and trauma resuscitation in A&E. Moreover I was in charge for the stocking of anesthetic supplies for the hospital. I gave theoretical and practical lessons to the local theatre nursing staff and I trained them for five months in anaesthesia with good results. I performed anaesthesia for plastic surgery during an Australian aid mission at the hospital and developed a referral list for specialist surgery needs altogether with the outreach team. When necessary I substituted colleagues in medicine, pediatric and surgical ward. From 1st February to 31st March I worked in the helicopter retrieval team of the Udine General Hospital (Dr. V. Michelutto). I received theoretical and practical training on rescue flights safety procedure. The service covers a population area of 1.400.000 people, and works from sunrise to sunset mainly on trauma patients following Italian Resuscitation Council Pre Hospital Trauma Care and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Guidelines. In August and September 2000 I worked also in the Helicopter Mountain Rescue Team with base in Tolmezzo (Udine) that covers emergencies during summer in the pre alpine region. Jul 97 – Mar 98 GENEVA UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL (SWITZERLAND), DEPARTMENT OF ANESTHESIOLOGY, PHARMACOLOGY AND SURGICAL INTENSIVE CARE Head of department Prof. F. Licker), abdominal (Dr C.E. Klopfenstein), orthopedics (Dr Z. Gamulin), ENT and neuro (Prof. E. Tassonyi), pediatric (Dr. J.C. Rouge). I also worked in the emergency (adult and pediatric) department as first and second on call. I managed all medical and surgical emergencies of the hospital toghether with or before the “chef de Clinique (equivalent to consultant)”, and coordinated the second and third doctor on call in addition of four anesthesia nurses. Nov 93 – Jun 97 UNIVERSITY OF UDINE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE (ITALY), DEPARTMENT OF ANESTHESIOLOGY AND INTENSIVE CARE Head of Department Prof. A. Pasetto Resident in anesthesia and intensive care During the four-year residency program, I gradually increased my knowledge and responsibility in clinical anesthesia and critical care medicine. I worked with direct responsibility (same role as a registrar in the British system) in all main sub specialties (abdominal, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, ear nose throat, plastic, urology, obstetrics and gynecology) and in Intensive Care Unit with a one to two month rotation. I also participated to clinical research activity and abstract presentation at meetings and congresses ( see publications). During the developing phase of our liver transplant activity I participated as observer to liver transplants in theatre and ICU at University of Bologna School of Medicine and at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Dr Stefano Donato – Curriculum Vitae pag. 43 Oct 92 – Jul 93 Internship Clinical internship in cardiac anaesthesia department (Dr. C. Sorbara, Prof. G.P. Giron). Here I observed cardiac anesthesia in theatre, I begun some practice under supervision and developed the thesis “What anaesthesia for CAD patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting? Evaluation by pressure-volume loop.” SHORT MISSIONS - STAGES June 2003 BAUCAU GENERAL HOSPITAL, BAUCAU (EAST TIMOR) – Aid mission as anesthesiologist with OSSAA (Overseas Specialist Surgical Association of Australia) sponsored by the Australasian Royal College of Surgeons. Head of mission Dr P. Riddel I performed anaesthesia for plastic and orthopedic surgery in pediatric and adult patients in Baucau Hospital SEI, KEFAMANANU & ATAMBUA HOSPITALS, WEST TIMOR (INDONESIA) After clinical work in East Timor we crossed the border with West Timor and spent a week evaluating theatre facilities in the hospitals of Sei, Kefamananu and Atambua in view of a future mission. Equipment has been stored and a report has been written. This part of the mission has been self sponsored by participants as Australian Government restrictions discouraged any official mission in West Timor. Novembre 2002 BAUCAU GENERAL HOSPITAL, BAUCAU (EAST TIMOR) Aid mission as anesthesiologist with OSSAA (Overseas Specialist Surgical Association of Australia) sponsored by the Australasian Royal College of Surgeons. Head of mission Dr M. Moore I performed anaesthesia for plastic (mainly cleft lips) and orthopedic surgery in pediatric and adult patients. Operations included cleft palates and/or lips, ear and hand deformities, burn scar retractions, hernia repair, phimosis, orchidopexy. Adult cases included gynecological surgery, hernia repair and laparoscopic cholecistectomy. I performed also anesthesia to some pediatric patients affected by congenital cataract for a local ophthalmic surgeon. Together with my colleague, apart from breathing circuits, fluids, volatile anesthetic agents and monitoring, I organized and found financing for fund all anesthesia equipment for the mission.
