Marco Pietrella ENEA, Casaccia Research Centre SP 26 via Anguillarese 301 I-00123 Rome (RM) ITALY email: marco.pietrella@enea.it Thematic areas: Genomics, molecular genetics and and cytogenomics Biography: I received the Degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Ancona –now Università Politecnica delle Marche- in 2001 with a thesis on the association of glycopeptides resistance and other virulence factors in clinical strains of Enterococci. I then moved to Germany in the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut with a fellowship to study the function of the prion protein in vivo with the construction of a transgenic mouse coding for a truncated version of the protein and to develop an in vitro approach to downregulate prion expression and the replication of its misfolded isoform via a siRNA-mediated approach. Since october 2006 I am in the group of Dr Giovanni Giuliano in ENEA with a fellowship on the sequencing and annotation of miRNA and transcriptome of tomato. I am involved also in different sequencing projects, among which tomato and potato genomes. In January 2010 I started a PhD on the identification and functional characterization of candidate genes controlling ripening characteristics in wild tomato species (green- and coloured-fruited).
