Midlands Dam
Construction of an asphalt concrete faced rockfill dam on the Grand River South East
(GRSE) to send water for irrigation and potable use to La Nicoliere Reservoir and satisfy
the need for water in the north of Mauritius.

Bagatelle Dam
Feasibility study for a new dam on the Terre Rouge River to supply water for Port Louis
and possibly for irrigation use. Studies also needed for Calebasses and Mon Vallon Dams.
Study not commenced yet. WRU indicate that the
dam is essential and will be needed by 2010. In

Rehabilitation of Municipal
Dyke
The dyke is simply a diversion structure that sends water to the Pailles WTW. Remedial
works are required to the structure.

Rehabilitation of Nicoliere Dam
Remedial works are required to the structure of the dam prior to the Midlands Dam
coming on-stream.

Rehabilitation of La Nicoliere
Feeder Canal
The canal diverts water from the Grand River South East and other rivers in the area to
the Nicoliere Dam. The canal is to be renovated to reduce losses and will also convey
water from the new Midlands Dam

Groundwater Development
Several new boreholes have been drilled in recent years and five more are planned at
Trianon, Melrose, Forbach, Petite Riviere and an observation well at Coromandel

Mare aux Vacoas Water Supply
Project
Works are in two phases. Phase one, consisting of the rehabilitation of the existing water
treatment works and various works to pumping stations, has been completed. Phase 2
consists of a new feeder canal, new 800mm diameter pipelines and a new water treatment
works of 70Mld capacity.

Improvement of Water Supply
in the East
The project caters to the provision of potable water to those sites identified for
development and allocation to employees of the sugar sector by the sugar estates under
the VRS scheme. The project also caters for expected developments in the tourism sector
in the eastern districts, in particular around Beau-Champ.
Phase I shall be implemented in 2003.
Bois Cheri Water Supply Project
The project involves the upgrading and extension of the water distribution network for
improvement of water supply to (1) La Flora (2) Grand Bois (3) Bois Cheri (4) Camp
Bananes and upgrading of the Nouvelle France Pumping Station.
