Responsible For
- Assisting the membership and fundraising team by
being the public face of Cheshire Wildlife Trust and
playing a key role in growing support and raising funds to
protect local wildlife. This role will involve volunteering in
the Cheshire region on some of our 45 nature reserves
and at pre-planned off site events, promoting the Trusts
work and encouraging people to support us through
membership.
This is likely to be a regular commitment; the most
successful times are weekends and bank holidays
throughout the Autumn/Winter period.

To engage with the general public and raise the profile of Cheshire Wildlife Trust
(CWT) across the Cheshire and Wirral regions.

To raise support for CWT by developing their membership base.

To help assist on membership events on and off CWT’s nature reserves.

 Actively engage with the general public and grow support by recruiting new
members.
 Help support the fundraising team by assisting at events.
 Talk to people and take personal details face to face, to complete
membership forms.
 Learn about Cheshire Wildlife Trust (CWT) projects and reserves in order to
engage with the general public to promote the Trust’s work.
 Offer excellent customer service.
 Help set up the stand at each event; this will involve some heavy lifting.
 Represent the CWT brand in a professional and informed manner at all times
when engaging with members of the public, CWT staff/volunteers, host sites
and any other contacts or supporters.
 Assist the team by keeping accurate and detailed records.
 Work at a range of sites across Cheshire to capitalize on the wildlife spectacle
of different habitats, and ensure the CWT messages are disseminated as
widely as possible.
 Maintain and strengthen partnerships with Wirral Ranger Service, Dee Estuary
Voluntary Wardens, Hilbre Bird Observatory, Friends of Hilbre Island, The Sea
Watch Foundation and where possible, build new relationships.
 Promote current CWT marine work.
Membership, Recruitment & Name Gathering
 Liaise with CWT fundraising team where necessary: Undertake proactive
membership recruitment and motivate other volunteers to do the same.
 Undertake name gathering activities and provide high standards of customer
care for new and existing members visiting the reserves and off site venues.
 Ask the public to give support by becoming a member of CWT.
 Understand the work of CWT in order to promote the Trust and its importance
and relevance to membership.
Volunteers
 Assist the Marketing and Membership Officer and the team of other volunteers
to help with recruitment at events and at reserves.
 Engage with the general public and inform them about our reserves, wildlife,
Cheshire Wildlife Trust and our membership packages.
 Ensure volunteers are aware and following best practice health and safety, as
advised in the risk assessment.
 Motivate other volunteers and ensure that they are well supported in their role,
working closely with the Marketing and Membership officer.
 Recruit new volunteers to help grow membership.
 Ensure volunteers are offered appropriate training as necessary.
 Complete paperwork such as registration forms and expense forms.
Co-ordination
 Support the CWT Fundraising Team where necessary, in liaising with key
partners to ensure all aspects of events run smoothly.
 Assist with providing information to our communications officer to update
social media.
 Be actively involved with planning and delivering promotion and publicity of
CWT and developing creative ways to enhance CWT’s profile.
 Suggest and attend further events within the Wirral and Cheshire area.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Overall purpose of the job:
The aim of this post is to continue and increase the CWT presence at various locations
around the Cheshire region including the Wirral. The successful candidate will help to
raise public awareness of CWT conservation work, increase their interest in wildlife,
especially their local wildlife and secure support for CWT through membership
recruitment and retention. This is accomplished by manning a CWT stand at a variety of
independent CWT nature reserves and partnership events, including most weekends,
and by asking visitors if they would like to join CWT to support our conservation work.
