Karolinska Institutet
Is looking for a
Bioinformatician
And a
Project coordinator
Applications are invited for two positions through Vinnova (Swedish Governmental
Agency for Innovation systems), within the partly sponsored project COMBINE “The
animal model platform for chronic inflammatory diseases” at the Division of Medical
Inflammation Research, the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, led
by Prof. Rikard Holmdahl. This project is co-ordinated by Prof. Lars Klareskog at
Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, Karolinska Sjukhuset. The members of the
consortium are Karolinska Institutet, Uppsala University, Stockholm University,
University of Göteborg, Umeå University, Linköping University, Lund University
and several industrial partners and are part of the Rheumatology Association.

Bioinformatician, full time
Reference number 5062/2008
Position:
The position is available for 2 years initially and has the possibility to be extended.
The work will be carried out 50% for the department and 50% for the COMBINE
network.
Work description:
To carry out analysis of experimental data and databases within the bioinformatics
and bio-statistical fields. The aim is to study pathogenesis for autoimmune
inflammatory diseases using experimental animal models, as well as comparative
analysis of human cohorts by using the yearly build program to analyse experimental
data statistically for both animal experimental genetics and human genetics produced
by around 20 researchers within the Division of Medical Inflammation Research as
well as within the network COMBINE. Knowledge of searching databases for
sequencing information and information for the connection between geno- and
phenotyping is essential as is the knowledge of database construction, programming
and the creation of datarepresentation portals. The work involves a close working
relationship with experimental researchers and the ability to communicate information
within the fields of biostatistics and bioinformatics is essential.
Qualifications:
A PhD degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics and computer programming is required.
A post-graduate qualification within these areas is an advantage. An interest in
biology is required and a formal education within a biological field is an advantage. A
good command of the English language is essential.

build up an experimental animal platform within the COMBINE network. To assist
animal experimental researchers as well as co-ordinate the handling of laboratory
animals for genetics research, possibly including own research. Responsibility for
organising the use of experimental animals as well as genetics analysis as well as
applying databases to integrate animal husbandry within the genetics and phenotyping
fields. Excellent communication skills are necessary as well as the ability to
cooperate with researchers, bioinformaticians and animal technicians. A close contact
with various public authorities is expected as well as the administration of ethical
permissions. The work also includes the organising of the use of animals as well as
their transport, including the use of mutual animal databases within the COMBINE
network for inflammation research.
