A Handy Pre-Travel Checklist
From Your Professional Pet Sitter
We want to maximize your enjoyment of your trip and we want be able to provide excellent care for
your pets while you are away. Please review this checklist before you leave to make sure everything
goes smoothly!
Preparation for Your Pets





Schedule Pet Sitting service 2-3 weeks in advance if possible
Ensure pets are current with their shots
Be sure pets have adequate medications to last until your return
Leave adequate supply of litter, food, and other pet supplies for sitter
Ensure you carry our office number so that you can contact us if you plans change or
flights are delayed
Preparations At Home




Pay upcoming bills that are due while you are traveling
Stop the mail and newspaper if you do not want sitter to pick up each day
Notify neighbors of your trip and give phone # for emergencies
Notify local police if you have a neighborhood patrol service in your city. Be sure to
advise name of pet sitter that will be visiting regularly




Notify alarm company of you absence and give them name and phone # of pet sitter
Notify veterinarian of travel plans
Close and lock all windows
Unplug small kitchen appliances (toaster, can opener, coffee maker)

Turn off water to washing machine
Set thermostat on air conditioning or heating
Arrange to have the lawn and landscape cared for
Place timers on indoor lamps and appliances to illuminate your home at night, and set
timers to turn on radios and televisions randomly during the day.





Keep some shades and blinds up and curtains open to maintain a normal appearance
Remove trash from home before departure
If you're leaving your car, for security leave it parked in the driveway
Empty perishables from refrigerator
Be sure to take the call-in number and password for your home answering machine so you
can access it if necessary.
Travel Checklist
 Drop off dry cleaning early to ensure that it is ready before you leave
 Pick up money and/or traveler's checks
 Put name and destination phone number or destination address in luggage. Don’t put the
address of your vacant home.
 Remove non-essentials from wallet or purse.
 Record phone numbers for reporting lost or stolen credit cards or debit cards and put them
in a location other than your purse or wallet





Be sure that you will have enough prescription medicine. Order if required.
Check Tickets
Check Passport and expiry date
Don’t forget Camera and wet weather gear
Reconfirm flight and departure times.
