ABSTRACT
The results of gerbera breeding by gamma irradiation in vitro
Four gerbera varieties DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4 are widely grown in different flower production areas of
Vietnam. However, there are some negative charateristics which have to be improved. With this aim
and to diversify the current Gerbera varieties, Agricultural Genetics Institute used gamma irradiation
(60Co) on callus of 4 above mentioned gerbera varieties with radiation doses 0 (original varieties), 5,
10, 20, 30Gy. To evaluate the initial results, 114 beneficial mutation lines have been obtained with the
morphologies such as: Low stem, change color of petals, change color of stamens and small leaf
angle. After observing, evaluating and comparing 114 mutation lines and original varieties by standard
indicators of biological agriculture in the fields, 12 promising lines have been selected.
