Honors Biology Grading Letter Dear Parents/Guardians, I am looking forward to working with you and your daughter/son this year. I believe every student can learn. Some students may need more time to achieve the course standards. I have structured the Honors Biology course to provide more time, as needed, for students to better master the objectives. Biology is a standards based class and each student must show they understand 75% or more of the unit’s content. Briefly stated the grade policy is: In Honors Biology a student must earn above 75% on each unit assessment to receive credit for the course. Students may retake unit assessments as needed to achieve the 75%. In order to retake unit assessments students must demonstrate that they have completed 80% or better of their inclass notebook work. Students will be given one retake during class time. All other retakes will be done on the students own time. All unit assessment scores must be 75% or better by two weeks before the end of the semester to receive credit for the Honors Biology course, if not then the student will receive an “F” for the course. Please take time to read the syllabus for grading percentages, late work policy, and etc. I am asking that both student and parent(s)/guardian sign below and return the bottom half of this sheet to me to verify that the policies have been read and understood. Please feel free to call me at 426-4471 ext. 16614 or e-mail czakem@sheltonschools.org if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Christie Zakem Biology teacher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read and understand the Honors Biology Course Policies.
