THE ABS – AMERICAN BUILDING SUPPLY, INC. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND CRITERIA AND APPLICATION SPONSORED BY AMERICAN BUILDING SUPPLY, INC. 2 ATLANTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE AMERICAN BUILDING SUPPLY, INC. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND The purpose of the AMERICAN BUILDING SUPPLY, INC. (ABS) scholarship fund is to reward academic excellence and/or to financially assist qualified vocational/technical degree candidates enrolled in the Carpentry diploma program or the Carpentry Framing Certification Program. A total of four (4) $500 scholarships ($2,000) will be awarded during the fall semester. The award will be as follows: Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to four students enrolled in the Carpentry diploma program or the Carpentry Framing Certification program. The scholarship funds will be disbursed for tuition, tools, books, and program specific supplies. The students will have access to a $500 line of credit at Atlanta Technical College. The Atlanta Technical College Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, administers the scholarship fund. STUDENT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 1. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 semester hours or more) in the Carpentry diploma program or the applicants must be enrolled for at least eight (8) semester hours in the Carpentry Framing Certification program. Applicants must have completed at least one semester of study prior to application. 2. Applicants must possess a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher (based on a fourpoint system). The applicant must also submit an “Instructor Recommendation Form” (attached) from a current or previous instructor in their program of study. The instructor should be familiar with the applicant’s academic achievement and work ethics. The form MUST be submitted in a sealed envelope along with the student’s application form. 3. Applicants must provide a copy of their Banner Web Transcript and grade report from the most current semester/s documenting full-time enrollment (summer and fall semesters of enrollment), and documentation of 3.0 GPA or higher. 4. Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced, one-page essay on why they should receive the scholarship and how it will aid them in completing their technical education. 5. Recipients, by accepting the award, agree to allow the American Building Supply, Inc. to publish their name and likeness, without restriction, in promoting the reward and ABS’s contribution. Recipients may additionally be contacted by ABS and interviewed for the creation of additional related publicity or information. Awardees may additionally be asked to sign a waiver. AMOUNT AND DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS 3 1. The amount of each scholarship awarded shall be $500. 2. The scholarship is for tuition, tools, books, and program specific supplies. The student will have access to a $500 line of credit placed on their account. 3. A student may reapply once for this scholarship as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and is enrolled full-time in the Carpentry diploma program or Carpentry Framing Certification program. 3. The scholarship will be rescinded in the following cases: A. Student’s GPA falls below 3.0 Student will receive a one-time probationary semester if his/her GPA drops below 3.0. The scholarship will not be renewed if the student’s GPA drops for a second time. B. Student’s course load falls below 12 hours for the semester To qualify for the scholarship, a student must be registered for a minimum of 12semester hours (full-time study) in the Carpentry diploma program or enrolled 8 semester hours in the Carpentry Framing Certification program. The student must maintain these respective enrollment hours during the awarding period. A student may enroll in an elective course if a required course is not available to ensure the required level of course enrollment. C. Student withdraws from Atlanta Technical College A student may reapply for scholarship consideration in the next funding cycle if his/her scholarship is rescinded for any of the reasons listed above. D. Student enrolled at Atlanta Technical College A student MUST be enrolled at the college at least one (1) semester prior to receiving the scholarship. 4. Scholarships are not transferable between programs and divisions; if a student changes his/her major from one program or division to another, the student forfeits his/her scholarship. APPLICATION PROCESS The availability of scholarship funding will be advertised during the Summer Semester. 1. Students will be informed via the College’s website, Student’s MYATC Account, and student’s College e-mail account. 2. Completed applications will be submitted to the Office of the President by 3:00 p.m. on June 18, 2015. 3. Incomplete application packets will not be eligible for consideration.
