August/September 2004 The Cambridge Chronicle The Cambridge Chronicle will be sent to our clients every other month via e-mail and will have news and information specific to legal staffing and more specifically to Atlanta. We will also publish what is new with Cambridge, for example changes in the benefits we offer our temporary employees and steps we take to improve our services. If you have any suggestions on topics you would like to see, please e-mail us at jlowe@cambridgeprofessionals.com. It is our constant goal to provide not only the best candidates and service, but also to serve as consultants to our clients. New Temporary Benefits We are now offering an additional level of health coverage for our long-term temporary employees. Until now, we have always offered health insurance reimbursements of $100 per month to our temporary employees to apply to the insurance carrier of their choice. In addition, they already receive eligibility in our 401K, holiday and vacation pay. Our new coverage will allow long-term temps (on assignment 6 months or longer) to participate in the same Major Medical coverage full-time employees at Cambridge enjoy. This level of coverage offers: health, vision, dental and life insurance through Guardian. For more information contact: Steve Sullivan 404.842.2800. CambridgeCounsel Welcomes Bennett Weinstein as Attorney Recruiter: Bennett received his B.S. in Biology from Michigan State University in 1997, and his J.D. from Vermont Law School in 2004. At Cambridge, Bennett’s main focus is recruiting and placing attorneys with some of the Southeast’s top law firms and corporations. When to use Contract Paralegals and Attorneys Contract attorneys and paralegals are becoming a common part of Atlanta’s legal landscape and a costeffective staffing solution for large litigation projects or for finding short-term expertise in a niche area. Today, it is evident that corporate America is still carefully managing non-revenue producing divisions of their companies, and therefore, is still carefully scrutinizing the costs and fees of outside counsel. At Cambridge we not only provide our clients with contract legal professionals, but also specialize in team placement and management. Here are some common situations where contract attorneys and paralegals are most often utilized: Document Discovery Review Due Diligence Contract Review Lease Abstraction Environmental Audits Antitrust-Second Request Review Contract Audits Coding Projects In addition, Cambridge offers contract attorneys and paralegals with expertise in all types of practice areas. Examples include patent prosecution, contract drafting and negotiating, commercial and residential real estate, securities, brief writers, and tax. These attorneys and paralegals normally have 5+ years of experience within their fields. Their bill rates depend on their level of experience and the contract work required of them. Projects we have staffed in 2004: Corporate Merger-contract attorneys and paralegals for a document review to identify privileged and responsive documents in the largest telecom merger in U.S. history. Securities Litigation-contract attorneys assisting at all levels in the representation of a major broker-dealer in arbitrations and potential pending litigation. Responsibilities of contract attorneys range from document review to motion and brief writing to case management. Lease Abstraction- contract attorneys and paralegals to abstract commercial real estate leases and then enter data into a database management system. Securities Enforcement-contract attorneys assisted with the production of documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Production stemmed from a preliminary SEC investigation of one of the firm's clients. Intellectual Property Litigation-contract attorneys for a document review in a large patent litigation case. Contract attorneys were also utilized to assist in other aspects of trial preparation as directed by the Firm's attorneys. General Litigation-contract attorneys in general document review for privileged and responsive documents. Specialist in Project/Team Placement: As part of our project/team placement, Cambridge provides the following services at no cost: a presentation of our team capabilities including a cost benefit analysis, preparation of a pre-project planning guide, and a performance standards meeting for all contractors. If it is determined that a team is needed, and the client has committed to using Cambridge, we will: (1) create project specific candidate guidelines, (2) hold a candidate orientation, (3) screen and select a team and team leader with client’s approval and (4) create a candidate retention and incentive program. Once a team is in place, we will apply quality control measures to ensure the client and the team is happy with the progress of the project. These quality control measures include, but are not limited to: client and candidate satisfaction surveys, routine meetings and customized reporting. At Cambridge Professional Group, we consider ourselves a partner in our client’s success, and we share in the responsibility of meeting the demands of their clients. If you are thinking of hiring full time attorneys or paralegals to meet peak needs, or if you are thinking of contacting another firm to act as cocounsel on a case that you are not equipped to handle alone, please give us a call and allow us to conduct a free cost benefit and staffing analysis. Mock Jury Services Cambridge Professional Group has recently added another innovative service to its project team menu. Having an extensive candidate pool, which encompasses candidates from all over Atlanta, we can create a “jury” that will meet your demographics and give you the desired feedback on the “verdict”. How it Works: Your firm has a large case going to trial and would benefit from a mock trial. The advantages of a mock trial with a randomly selected, but demographically representative jury are numerous. They allow you to present your case and in return, the mock jury provides feedback as it relates to: the strengths, weaknesses and any missing pieces of the case. It also allows for non-lawyer “eyes and ears” to analyze the merits of the case and break it down to the simplest of form. Since the jurors will be paid for their participation, they will be asked to take a true active role, participating in a roundtable discussion evaluating the case and filling out evaluations/feedback forms that cover: Strengths of the case. Weaknesses of the case. Missing pieces of the case. Questions that were not answered. How the attorney presented the case. The general impressions of the attorney presenting the case. The attorney’s weaknesses and strengths. What would you recommend the attorney do differently to connect with the jury? What are your general impressions of the client. Anything else you would like, we will tailor each evaluation form and roundtable discussion to meet the needs of the client and the specific case. Our Role: We will create a mock jury of candidates that meet your demographic specifications. We will screen them for appropriate backgrounds, schedule them and commit them to the duration of the mock trial. Then we will have them fill out all appropriate confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and prep them in regards to expectations and participation in the project. We will also pay them directly as employees of Cambridge and bill the client an allinclusive hourly bill rate between $22 an hour and $36 an hour (based on scope, backgrounds and experience).
