JOB FAIR RULES FOR BUS DRIVERS
JEFFERSON PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM
Prior to Job Fair, the Transportation Department will design route packages based
upon economic and financial considerations of the Jefferson Parish Public School
System as well as any boundary changes. Job Fair will consist of one session on the
Westbank.
Job Fair will be conducted Monday, July 14, 2014 – Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Routes may be viewed on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.
Viewing numbers will be issued on a first come first serve basis upon arrival and
sign-in. Only 50 drivers will be admitted into each 30-minute viewing session. There
will be 4 sessions during the 2:00pm – 4:00pm time frame.
1. Each owner-operator will receive a letter indicating the date and time of his/her
selection appointment. The letter must be returned to the Transportation
Department by the date indicated.
2. Before the 2014 Job Fair, unassigned trips may be added to:
a. vacancy routes if a time slot is available or
b. a current owner-operator’s route.
All remaining trips will be temporarily added to existing routes.
3. Drivers who are not satisfied with his/her route package are not required to attend
job fair.
4. Drivers wishing to change his/her route package or any school in the route package,
must give up the complete route package and choose another complete route
package.
5. No faxes will be accepted.
6. The use of a proxy has been approved. Those wishing to exercise their Proxy right
must report to the Transportation Department with their designee to complete the
form and have it witnessed by a member of the Transportation Department before
12:00pm July 8, 2014.
7. Job Fair dates are listed on the Intent to Participate letter sent to drivers.
8. Assigned selection time will be based upon seniority. Seniority determination will be
based upon the Attorney General’s opinion of June 2, 2004.
9. There will be approximately 15 drivers assigned to a specific time slot. Each time
slot will consist of 20 minutes of viewing trips/routes.

10. Each driver will sign-in, receive a number and an assigned seat based upon his/her
seniority and time slot.
11. Drivers will be given 20 minutes from the time the session begins to view available
routes. After map review, drivers will report to their assigned seats.
12. Drivers will be given 6 minutes to make his/her selection. The most senior driver
will be asked if he/she has made a selection.
13. If a decision is not made within the allotted six minutes or the driver is not present at
his/her selection time, it will be considered a pass. The next most senior driver will
be allowed to make a selection.
14. If a selection is made, the driver will proceed to the administration table for
processing. The driver will be asked to leave the Job Fair and may not return.
15. If the most senior driver makes no selection, he/she may pass his/her turn. The
selection process then moves in succession to the next most senior driver. At any
time a more senior driver that has passed may ask to make a selection prior
to asking the next least senior driver. The senior driver will then follow steps
beginning with #13.
16. At the end of the last time slot, all unselected routes will be removed from the board
and assigned by Administration. These routes will be temporarily assigned and
available at Job Fair for the following school year. The driver assigned the route
package will sign a Temporary Assignment Sheet acknowledging that these routes
are granted for one regular school calendar year. This calendar year is to run from
the opening of the regular school session until the end of the regular school
session.
17. Final approval is determined by the Transportation Department’s
administration. All decisions are final.
RULES OF BEHAVIOR
1. Any driver reporting to Job Fair after the process has begun will be seated at
the end of the line for his/her session.
2. No electronic devices (cell phones, blue tooth, etc.) will be allowed.
3. All drivers will be asked to remain quiet and seated during route selection.
4. A driver causing a disturbance will be asked once to follow behavior rules.
On the second request, the driver will be asked to leave and escorted out of
Job Fair. If a driver causes a disturbance such that an officer is summoned to
escort the driver from the premises, the driver forfeits all seniority rights and is
allowed to select last on the final day of Job Fair.
