Writer’s Guidelines
Environmental Protection welcomes manuscripts and suggestions for articles. We do not accept
simultaneous submissions, nor do we accept scientific papers. The writing style should promote
readability and pertain to environmental professionals. Commercialism of a company or product
should be avoided and will be deleted from any article. A copyright release form must be
completed and returned before a manuscript will be considered.
Manuscripts
Submitted articles should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words and accompanied by a brief
biographical sketch of each author. Manuscripts MUST be saved in the Microsoft Word format. All
other formats will be returned unread. Please avoid the use of embedded characters, micros
and/or excessive tabs within the Word document. Also, please spell out acronyms upon first
mention within an article. Articles may be submitted via e-mail to lwilliams@1105media.com. For
security reasons, please send a query letter before submitting an article as an attachment.
Photographs, Charts
All figures, tables, illustrations and photographs accompanying a manuscript must be identified
with a detailed description. We accept color and black & white photographs, transparencies and
35 mm color slides. Regular 3.5-inch, Zip disks and CD-ROMS are acceptable as long as the files
are compatible with Adobe Photoshop. Graphics may be uploaded to our FTP site. E-mail pictures
must be 300 dots per inch (dpi), CMYK, three inches wide and formatted as either a .jpg, .tif, .eps,
.psd, .bmp or .pdf. Graphs and illustrations should be in Illustrator eps format, accompanied by a
hard copy.
Advisor Review
Manuscripts may be reviewed by editorial advisers.
Correspondence
Please include the following information for each author: job title, professional credentials (e.g.,
PhD, PE), mailing address, work and home phone numbers, fax number and e-mail address.
Correspondence will be maintained with one author only. Please indicate who that should be in
your cover letter. Address submissions to Lisa Williams, 1105 Media Inc., 5151 Beltline Road,
Suite 1010, Dallas, Texas 75254; 972.687.6730 or e-mail lwilliams@1105media.com.
Guidelines for Online Bulletin Board Postings:
Guidelines for Bulletin Board Postings:
As of Sept. 1999, each EP author is requested to post a
thought-provoking statement, question or comment designed to spark
discussion related to their article topic on www.eponline.com's bulletin
board, found under Current Issue, EP Discussion Forum. Authors who do
not have Internet access can forward the posting to us, with the
understanding that we will post it in their name. The discussion forum
will be linked from each online article, as well as mentioned in the
print version.
We would ask our authors to please keep in mind the following
guidelines, when posting to the Discussion Forum.
1. The post should be, while relevant to the topic discussed in the
article, original in nature, and designed to stimulate discussion with
readers on the board. Questions or comments addressing a point not fully
covered in your article, or a controversial element of your article, are
ideal for this forum. Posts with only a summarization of the article, no
question or comment included in the text, or instructions to contact the
author directly are not suitable for the purposes of the Discussion
Forum.
2. In deference to the intended goals of he Discussion Forum, any posts
deemed inappropriate or overly self-promotional by the EP Web Monitor
will be deleted.
We look forward to reading your comments and hope that you will enjoy
this opportunity to interact with your readers.
