STALLION SERVICE AUCTION
MISSION OBJECTIVE: A fund raiser to support and fund the annual activities and events of
OkFQHR including the weanling, yearling, 2-Yr old, 3-Yr old, and 4-Yr old Super Stakes
program, the Oklahoma affiliate foundation shows, and end-of-the year activities/awards.
WHEN A BUYER PURCHASES A STALLION SERVICE, THROUGH THE STALLION
SERVICE AUCTION, IT IS CONSIDERED A NON-REFUNDABLE CONTRIBUTION TO
OkFQHR.
Overall Rules:
1. You do not need to be a member of the Oklahoma Foundation Quarter Horse Registry to
purchase a stallion services.
2. Mares must be halter broke, stand tied, have proof of negative coggins, be free of
infection or any infectious diseases, and if breeding to a stallion out of state, have a valid
health certificate.
3. Mare owners must abide by any restrictions that stallion owners have listed in their
breeding contracts. Mare owner will sign these terms and conditions with OkFQHR
agreeing that OkFQHR will not be held responsible for:
a. Infertility of the mare (non-production of a live foal the following year).
b. Injury of the mare/foal at the breeding facility.
c. Disease of the mare/foal at the breeding facility.
d. Loss of life of the mare/foal at the breeding facility.
e. Loss of life of the mare/foal at the breeding facility.
f.
Any other unforeseen problems.
4. Mare owner is responsible for contacting the stallion owner before purchasing the
breeding to inspect the stallion and the breeding facility. Then after purchasing the
breeding, the mare owner should set up details and accommodations for the mare with
the stallion owner. The mare owner may be responsible for additional fees such as:
chute fees, shipped semen charges, and other associated breeding charges (mare
owner must contact the stallion owner to get a defined list of charges). These fees are
paid directly to the stallion owner/manager and not to OkFQHR. All contractual
agreements, guarantees, rebreed policies, and expenses are solely between the bidder
and the stallion owner. OkFQHR is merely a broker for the breeding itself and it not
liable for any other expense or dispute.
5. If the stallion owner has a live foal guarantee (LFG), that will be specified. If the mare
does not conceive this year and there is a LFG and the mare is bred back and foals in
the subsequent year, that foal is still eligible. The stallion owner is responsible for

specifying and enforcing any rebreeding policies and that agreement is between the
stallion owner and the mare owner.
6. Stallion owners/donators must sign a Stallion Service Donation Contract with OkFQHR
to guarantee their stud service to the highest bidder. The SSA contract must be
submitted before a stallion will be listed on the OkFQHR website, in any OkFQHR
stallion auction promotion or sold at the auction. NO EXCEPTIONS. The stallion owner
will be notified as to the purchaser of each stallion service sold by OkFQHR.
7. Breedings bought at the OkFQHR Stallion Service Auction are not resaleable.
8. All get sired by a sold stallion will be eligible to compete in the stakes classes provided
they are registered with the FQHR.
9. The mare owner who purchases a stallion service will get a free eligibility (free
nomination and one free entry fee) for a resulting foal in the Super Stakes. Selected
mare must be designated to OkFQHR prior to July 1st of the breeding year. All foals
MUST be FQHR registered to be eligible to show in the Super Stakes Classes.
10. The stallion owner of each sold stallion service will receive a free eligibility (one free
nomination and one free entry fee) for one foal. Additional foals by the same stallion
would become eligible by paying a one-time nomination fee and a class entry fee (these
fees will be added to the purse money). Once a stallion is sold at the stallion auction, it
remains eligible for that year, regardless of extenuating circumstances (settling the
mare, disputes between stallion owner and mare owner, etc.).
11. The stallion owner must provide a breeder’s certificate in a timely manner to the mare
owner as to allow registration of the foal in time for the October show. Failure to do so
may jeopardize the stallion owner’s participation in future stallion auctions. The stallion
owner may withhold the breeder’s certification if the mare owner’s financial obligations
have not been fulfilled.
12. Eligibility is transferred in the event of sale of the foal.
13. ALL other foals “sired by Super Stakes eligible stallions” (stallions that SOLD)
become eligible by paying a one time nomination fee; Weanlings $100, Yearlings $130,
2-Yr Olds $160, 3-Yr Olds $190, & 4-Yr Olds $220. Super Stakes class entry fees, office
fees & cattle charges are additional & will apply. Foals nominated as weanlings for the
minimum nomination fee do not have to be shown as weanlings and will be eligible
to show with no additional nomination cost in the appropriate subsequent Super Stakes
classes.
14. Starting with the 2012 foal crop and thereafter, OkFQHR will allow foals sired by noneligible stallions to buy into the Super Stakes program by paying a one time nomination
fee; Weanlings $150, Yearlings $180, 2-Yr Olds $210, 3-Yr Olds $240 & 4-Yr Olds $270.
Super Stakes entry fees, office fees & cattle charges are additional & will apply. Foals
nominated as weanlings for the minimum nomination fee do not have to be shown as
weanlings and will be eligible to show with no additional nomination cost in the
appropriate subsequent Super Stakes classes. Neither the stallions siring these foals nor
the stallion owners will get the benefits bestowed upon the donated stallions such as;
Outstanding Stallion Awards, Outstanding Owner Awards, Stallion Directory listings,
website promotion &/or advertising of stallion by OkFQHR.

15. Bids may be placed in person, through the website, by telephone, 1st class mail, or email to the Stallion Service Auction management. All bids must be paid within 30 days
unless arrangements have been made with OkFQHR or the stallion may be re-sold. If
no one bids on a stallion service, the stallion owner may purchase their stallion for half
the breeding fee or $200, and have 2 foals eligible. There will be a $50 additional fee for
any stallion purchased by the owner after deadline of Nov. 1 until new auction starts.
16. All Stallion Service Auction contributions are non-refundable.
17. Substitutions of participating mares and/or stallions:
a. If the mare dies or becomes non-serviceable before or during the current
breeding season (Feb 15th thru July 1st), the mare owner will be allowed to
substitute an alternative mare in place of the non-serviceable mare. OkFQHR
will require vet certificates on all non-serviceable mares.
b. If the stallion, whose breeding was sold that current year, dies or becomes nonserviceable before or while the mare is being bred (during that breeding season
only or in compliance with the rebreed policy of the stallion owner), the buyer will
be offered a substitute stallion service by a participating OkFQHR Stallion
Service Auction stallion owner at the same price or may pay the difference if the
auction price is a higher fee.
c. All substitutions must be approved by the Board of Directors to be eligible for the
Super Stakes classes.
d. If a stallion that is entered in the stallion auction does not sell, but at a later time
has a mare transferred to it because another sold stallion became unserviceable,
the resulting foal is eligible for the Super Stakes as well as the foals of the
substituting stallion for that year.
18. Mare owners who want to breed additional mares should verify the eligibility status of a
stallion with the SSA coordinator and not rely on word of mouth.
