Emily Bonett Presidential Election Persuasive Essay November 9 th
2012
Who do you think is the better candidate to fix the problems facing the U.S.? I believe that President Obama is the right person to help get our country back on track.
Prior to running for President, Obama was the Senator from Illinois. His political party is
Democratic. In 2009 he won the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a graduate of Columbia
University and Harvard Law School. The three main issues that I will be discussing are the economy, healthcare, and education.
Some main points of concern in our current economic situation are job creation, taxes, and the deficit. President Obama’s stance on these issues is to cut taxes for working Americans and to reduce the over 16 trillion dollars in deficit with a plan of spending cuts and revenue increases. He also plans to bring back manufacturing jobs by eliminating tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, and create incentives for businesses who bring back jobs to America. I do not understand why companies would want to keep sending jobs overseas when there are many American people who need and want to work. The fact is more jobs will bring more sending and taxes being paid which will help the economy. The next topic I will be discussing is healthcare.
Obama called for Congress to pass legislation reforming healthcare in the U.S., a key campaign promise and a top legislative goal. Some people call it Obama care. Obama wants to make healthcare more affordable. Obama believes that quality, affordable healthcare insurance you can rely on is a key part of middleclass security. By making healthcare more affordable, his Affordable Care Act will strengthen Medicare, improve the quality of healthcare, and to help end insurance company abuse. If healthcare costs
keep raising many people including senior citizens will not be able to afford it. Lastly I would like to talk about education.
Education is an important campaign issue. American leaders agree that while some schools are doing well, many could be better. Obama believes that the states should be able to run their schools. He wants to figure out which schools are not doing well, also wants to match the best teachers with the students who need the most help. Obama successfully fought to prevent federal student loath interest rates from doubling. He started a program called “Race to the Top.” Obama believes that good teachers should get more pay and more support. Everyone deserves an affordable, high quality education.
We need the best and the most dedicated teachers for our children.
Obama says that he wants to have four more years of being our president. He wants to have four more years to complete what he started. He wants to get our country back on track. We need a president who will take care of and defend all of its citizens. If new jobs are not created soon, there will be no revenue to help the economy. High healthcare costs will cause more uninsured people to get sick. Our children deserve the highest quality of education. They are our future! It is now or never, we need to get out and vote for the best candidate for the job. Our country needs your help to get out of the recession.
