LEISURE MANAGEMENT CONTRACTORS ASSOCATION (LMCA)
The Leisure Management Contractors Association (LMCA) is an association of
leisure management companies that provide management and development services
to local authorities.
LMCA was established in 1989 to provide a forum for companies pursuing leisure
management contracting opportunities with local authorities. As well as providing
members with the opportunity to meet and discuss industry issues, the Association
provides a focus to obtain the views of its members. Currently, the LMCA have the
leading 7 companies as members of the Association. The number of leisure
management companies has reduced over the last 10 years.
LMCA Members operate over 400 facilities and employ over 26,000 staff. LMCA
members have invested over £160m into local authority facilities and equipment in
recent years and are working with local authorities to provide new facilities through
PFI/PPP projects. Examples include the Excel Centre in Elmbridge and a multi-hub
centre in LB Lewisham.
SPORTA (REPRESENTING LEISURE TRUSTS)
Sporta is the organisation representing social enterprises and trusts within the
Cultural and Leisure Sector.
Sporta, was founded in 1997 and now has a membership of 120 leisure trusts and
social enterprises, ranging from small trusts representing single leisure centres to
larger organisations managing more than 65 sites, as well as some ‘all embracing
trusts’ such as the Wigan Leisure and Cultural Trust and the Luton Cultural Services
Trust, which also manage other cultural services including libraries and arts venues
and parks.
It is estimated that Sporta members have a combined annual turnover in excess of
£625 million with 210 million customers visiting their facilities each year and employ
over 26,000 full time employees. In total, Sporta members operate over 920
individual sites.
GROUNDWORK (AMENDED SECTION)
GROUNDWORK UK is an environmental charity who now works with a number of
local authorities on development and improvement of parks and open spaces.
Groundwork UK, which was originally established in the late 1970s to develop and
improve the physical environment located in the urban fringe. The first trust was
established in the North West in the early 1980s. Since then, nearly 50 trusts have
been established across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Provide young people with something to do and somewhere to go

Groundwork UK are able not only to support local authorities in development of parks
and open spaces ,but can play a key role in identifying and provision of funding to
