Signing in and Out: Parents are reminded to sign in and out when they enter the school to visit students’
classrooms or for attending any daytime activities. We would also ask that you sign your child in and out
if picking up to attend doctor’s appointments during the day. These procedures are in place for safety
concerns. The binders are located in the main office.
Picture Retakes: Classroom photos and re-takes will take place on Tuesday, October 14th.
Recess Snacks: We are encouraging students to take their snacks outside to eat during recess time in
order to maximize learning time. Garbage cans will be put out and brought in each recess to reduce
waste outside.
Jogathon/Terry Fox Run: We are still collecting money from this event. We will update you regarding
the final total in the next newsletter.
Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry Checks: This is just a reminder to have these completed if
planning to volunteer or go on class trips with your child/children.
School Cancellation: If school is cancelled prior to the beginning of the school day, it will be posted on
the HRSB web as well as on the radio and television. Please note that Prospect Rd. Elementary belongs
to the Halifax West Family of schools. There may be circumstances when school is cancelled during the
day. This decision will be communicated to all schools as close to 11:00 a.m. as possible. Please make
sure your emergency contact information is up to date by advising the school of any changes. The
school will contact parents/guardians prior to the students going home or to caregivers.
Communication Policy: Our Communication policy has been updated and can been found on our school
web site.
Roofing Update: The construction continues to be moving along. The Operations team is working hard
to minimize the disruptions to our students. Positive news, we’ll have a new roof! If you have any
questions or concerns please phone the school to speak with Mrs. McGinn or Mrs. Latham.

Halloween Costume Sale: The PTA will be selling gently used Halloween costumes at the PRCCC on
Wednesday, October 8th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. If you are looking for a unique costume, please consider
purchasing one there. Thank you for your continued support.
Acorn Custom Cards Fundraiser: The PTA is sponsoring this successful fundraiser again the year.
Students will be completing their artwork here at school and they will take home their productions for
you to order if you wish. Order forms will be coming home next week.
PTA: The PTA had their first meeting on Sept. 17th. They are always looking for new members. Their next
meeting is Wed. October 15th. Everyone is welcomed. They will be holding a Wine and Cheese tasting
evening in November….watch for details. The monthly minutes will be posted on the school web site.
The PTA focuses on raising funds to enhance learning and school spirit. We strongly encourage parental
involvement, and are always looking for volunteers to come out and help support our events.
Ways you can get involved in the PTA include:
• Volunteer at an event to sell tickets or food/drink items
• Run a game booth or event at the Spring Fling (cake walk, face painting, etc.)
• Collect prizes for a fundraiser (Halloween raffle, Spring Fair, etc.)
• Paint/print signs for events
• Call friends to publicize events
• Set up and tear down at events
• Commit to picking up items before an event
• Take a lead on organizing an aspect of an event
• Offer your special skills to raise funds for the school

School Advisory Council: The SAC held their first meeting on September 22nd. The minutes are posted
on the web site. The next meeting is October 20th.
The ongoing work of the staff at Prospect Road Elementary is supported by the School Advisory Council
(SAC). This is a formal, provincially-legislated body that meets six times/year to discuss school business
and advise on policy and practices. Serving on the SAC are representatives from the parent/guardian
community, school teaching staff and school support staff. All SAC general meetings are public and you
