ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY JOB DESCRIPTION APPROVED POSITION INFORMATION (to be completed by HR) Effective: June 1, 2015 Title Range JCC Coordinator, Postdoctoral Scholars & Graduate Recruitment 2 67680 Essential Function: Sedentary Work Description: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. 1. The Program Coordinator for Postdoctoral Scholars, Graduate Recruitment and Diversity reports directly to the Vice Provost, Graduate Education/Dean of the Graduate School and serves as the administrative officer for Graduate School initiatives in career development, recruitment and diversity. The position provides support for (1) the design and implementation of services and resources for the training and professional development of postdoctoral scholars; (2) centralized graduate student recruitment efforts, and (3) programs to recruit, train and support diversity graduate students. The position acts as a liaison with the VPRI Office, Human Resources, the Graduate Student Association, the Office of the Diversity Initiatives and the TRiO and McNair Scholars Programs. The other major function of this position will include contributing to the teaching mission of the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition and Veterinary Sciences. This person will teach three, (3) credit courses during the academic year related to the Agricultural Sciences program in the department. The faculty member will also contribute through service to department activities by serving on committees and helping with student recruitment. * Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division. 2. If line of progression, define for each range as above. 50% - Service to Agriculture, Nutrition and Veterinary Sciences Department 35% - Instruction o Teach three, three-credit courses during the academic year related to the Agricultural Science program as determined by the Department Chair in consultation with the faculty member: two courses will be taught in the Fall semester and one course in the Spring semester. (This sequence of courses can be changed by mutual agreement between the Department and the faculty member.) 1 Program Coordinator, Postdoctoral Scholars Program 15% -Department Committees and Recruitment o Serving on ANVS departmental committees or as the Departmental representative to CABNR committees. These may include personnel searches and curriculum committees. o Participation in ANVS Departmental recruitment efforts of undergraduate students such as Best and Brightest recruitment efforts. 25% - Office of Postdoctoral Scholars Develop and coordinate postdoctoral seminar series and professional development opportunities; manage the planning and organization of all postdoctoral scholars’ events Develop and deliver orientation sessions with new postdoctoral scholars Provide leadership for the establishment of a UNR Postdoctoral Scholars Association Collaborate and lead graduate programs to develop National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) approved postdoctoral mentoring plans, including Individual Development Plans Collaborate with the Graduate Dean and Graduate School Web Communications Specialist to design and maintain a web-based Office of Postdoctoral Scholars Administer a competitive travel grant program for postdoctoral scholars Collaborate with Graduate Dean to identify and pursue extramural funding in support of the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars and in fund-raising efforts Act as a liaison and respond to the requests of institutions and organizations 15% - Graduate Student Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives Serve as primary contact for program matters of the Office for Postdoctoral Scholars, Graduate Recruitment and Diversity Design and implement GradFIT recruitment boot camps Collaborate with Graduate Dean and Office of Marketing and Communications personnel with design of digital recruitment campaigns Develop and implement additional marketing materials, plans and strategies Participate in on-campus and off-campus recruitment events such as the California Forum for Diversity Collaborate with Graduate Dean to identify and pursue extramural funding in support of the diversity initiatives; actively participate in the grant application and manuscript preparation and submission process Establish and manage strong partnerships with institutions and organizations that support diversity initiatives 10% - Graduate Student Operations Scholar relations: Provide guidance to scholars with grievances, and disseminate and clarify University policies and procedures related to postdoctoral scholars Develop and maintain databases for the monitoring and tracking of postdoctoral scholars, and for the professional and academic resources available to postdoctoral scholars; query and produce analytics Participate in the development and updating of graduate student handbooks and administrative systems and records Provide backup support and collaborate with Human Resources and Department Administrators for processing applications to the Graduate School 2 Program Coordinator, Postdoctoral Scholars Program 3. The Program Coordinator has the authority to supervise the activities of student workers and to make recommendations to the Graduate Dean regarding the allocation of funds to various programs in support of postdoctoral scholars, recruitment and diversity initiatives. With the exception of day-to-day operations, however, these recommendations will require the Graduate Dean’s review and approval. 4.
