Character Analysis Mini-Essay: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the
Universe or the Odyssey
This will be a partially on-demand essay written in class 1st block of next week.
Requirements:
 Typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman font.
 Compelling, appropriate title
 2 short, “meaty” quotations cited correctly
 Proper heading—see example above
 1 ½ -2 pages
 Introduction:
o 3-4 sentences
o Grabber
o Thesis statement
 Two long body paragraphs:
o 6-10 sentences
o Perfect paragraph format
o Transition sentence between

Prompt: This will be a mini-essay that displays how a particular character changes throughout the
book. You will write about Ari, Dante, Lilly, Chole, Sam, Jaime, or Odysseus, depending on your
character focus group.
 The first body paragraph should focus on the character in the first half of the novel.
 The second body paragraph will focus on how and when the character has changed.
You need a quotation in each body paragraph to support your analysis. Your quotation should be no
longer than three sentences. In order to establish the shift in character, be sure to use a strategic
transition sentence.
You will have access to the evidence wall with character traits and quotations.
