Informational (Research) Essay You will be conducting research aligned to your Social Studies curriculum, as well as our Language Arts standards. You will be asked to analyze the similarities and differences between Ancient Greece and today’s modern society. The project will consist of an informational essay and a visual/oral presentation. We will be breaking the project down into several parts as we work on them in class (Part 1: Research, Part 2: Essay, Part 3: Visual/Oral Presentation). In order to gather ideas, think about the answer to the following question: How is our society today different/similar to that of Ancient Greece? Your first assignment is to hand in the attached proposal form by: ___________________________. This proposal will include what topics you want to focus your compare/contrast essay on. Make sure you read about your choices a little ahead of time to ensure that there is enough information. You will be filling out a graphic organizer to guide you with comparing and contrasting these 2 societies. Below are the categories you can choose to focus on: EDUCATION GOVERNMENT INNOVATIONS ROLE OF WOMEN Any other approved topic pertaining to both societies The research you will gather will be organized into a minimum of three body paragraphs, an introduction, and a conclusion (5 paragraphs total). Make sure that you find enough information to write well-developed paragraphs. Requirements continued…. 3. Bibliography: You will also be required to submit a bibliography with your final draft. Therefore, it is IMPERATIVE you keep a list of resources you have used in your notebook.** 4. Visual/Oral Presentation – You will create an oral presentation to demonstrate to others what you have learned from this research essay. Some possibilities of visual aids to help you with your presentation are: a poster, 3D model, or power point presentation. You will NOT read the essay in front of the class. If there is something else you would like to do as a visual, present it to me for approval. To go along with your visual, you will develop a 5-minute oral presentation. ** The information from this part will be pulled from your essay, NOT read from the actual essay.
