NIU PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Instructions & Involvement Form
In order to apply for the Parents’ Association Endowed Scholarship Award, complete the
Parents’ Association Endowed Scholarship Award application and upload all appropriate
documents within Huskie Link, our student organization database. The Parents’ Association
Endowed Scholarship application can be found at https://niu.collegiatelink.net/form/start/55563. The
online application, three letters of recommendation, personal essay, unofficial transcript, and the
Involvement Form below must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 in order to
be eligible for this award.
PLEASE COMPLETE ALL PARTS OF THE APPLICATION IN ONE SITTING in order to avoid
losing your data! This will ensure an accurate and timely application process.
ELIGIBILITY:
 Student must be a junior, degree-seeking NIU student, with a declared major
 Preference will be given to applicants with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above
CRITERIA (all criteria will be judged equally):
 Active participation in recognized student/academic organization(s), committees, task forces,
and/or athletic club(s)/ team(s)
 Community service
 Quality of involvement (impact on campus)
 Scope of involvement (variety)
 Level of involvement (leader vs. member)
 Demonstrated leadership ability
 Academic achievement
MATERIALS NEEDED:
 Within the online application, upload the Involvement Form below
 Within the online application, upload a personal essay
Applicants must provide a 1000 word essay. This essay should include a description of family
background, how you’ve been involved with your extracurricular activities, length of time you have
been involved with each activity, career aspirations, and why you feel you deserve to receive the
Parents’ Association Endowed Scholarship Award.
 Within the online application, upload three letters of recommendation
Applicants must submit three (3) letters of recommendation. One must be from a professor or
instructor in applicant’s major field of study. The remaining letters may be from other personal
references, but NOT from friends or family members.

Within the online application, upload an unofficial transcript from MyNIU
Applicant must supply a current NIU unofficial transcript (including fall semester grades) along with
your application.


In order to properly submit your unofficial transcript, print out a copy of your transcript from
MyNIU. Then, visit a computer lab on campus, scan your transcript to yourself, save it, and
upload your scanned copy within the Huskie Link application. Visit the following website to view
a list of computer labs on campus with scanning capability:

If you are a spring 2015 transfer student, please upload a copy of your unofficial transcript from
your previous institution.
APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINE:
 Complete the Parents’ Association Endowed Scholarship application and upload a personal
essay, three letters of recommendation, unofficial transcript, and the Involvement Form below by
4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015.
RECOGNITION:
 Written notification regarding this award will be available by early April 2015.
 Recipients will be honored at the Kevin D. Knight Leadership Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April
26, 2015.
