CALL FOR PAPERS International Geographical Congress Beijing, 21-15 August 2016 http://www.igc2016.org Sessions organised by the IGU Gender and Geography Commission The 33rd International Geographical Congress (IGC) of the International Geographical Union (IGU) will be held in Beijing, China, on 21-25 August 2016. The theme is Shaping Our Harmonious Worlds, which highlights today’s common pursuit for harmony between humankind and nature, between environment and society, and for harmonious approaches to the world’s hazards and conflicts. Under this theme, five key topics: geographical science and future earth, global change and global understanding, urbanization and sustainable development, environment-health and social welfare, geography in different cultures will be focused, parallel to the quadrennial meeting of the IGU commissions and task forces. The IGU Gender and Geography Commission will be organising the following session: Addressing Gendered Insecurities in the Urban Global South Dance, Bodies and Embodiment as Constructing Cultures, Economies and the Nation Gender in Regeneration Projects: (Dis)Empowerment? Civil Engagement? Gendered Aspects of Migration and Multiculturalism Gendered Rights: Space, Culture and Society Island Bodies Mapping Changing Landscapes of Care in Asia: Towards Gendered Theoretical and Empirical Frameworks MART Babies, SMART Cities: From the Intimate Body to the Asian City A Woman’s Place is in the City! (with the Urban Geography Commission) Conversations between Gender and Political Geographies: Key Concepts, Methods and Themes (with the Political Geography Commission) Understanding Contemporary Dynamics of International Student Mobililties (with the Population Commission) The detailed descriptions of each session are attached. If you would like to present a paper in any of the sessions, please submit an abstract of not more than 250 words to the conference website by Monday, 15 February 2016. Note that: (i) titles should consist of no more than 20 words; (ii) no abbreviations are to be used in titles; and (iii) please be sure to include no more than 10 key words.
