Faye Phillips is the owner of V F Phillips, an appraisal, archival services, and local history research and publications consulting firm. She has performed appraisals for tax purposes of historical manuscripts and artifacts for numerous individuals (references available upon request) and organizations including: the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University, “American Routes” at Tulane University, the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court, and the Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court. Phillips has also served as a consultant to the special collections, archives and libraries of the University of Alaska – Fairbanks, the University of Oklahoma, Tulane University, the Supreme Court Library of Louisiana, and the Coca-Cola Company. She and her associates have provided archival services to the American Society of International Law, the Louisiana Historical Association and private families. Faye Phillips was Associate Dean of Libraries at Louisiana State University from 2006 until January 2012 when she retired. From 1995-2006 she served as Associate Dean of Libraries for Special Collections of the LSU Libraries. She worked in various other administrative positions at the LSU Libraries Special Collections from 1986-1995. Phillips was promoted to Librarian (full professor) in 1994 and named Professor Emerita upon her retirement. Phillips has over thirty years of experience in academic libraries, special collections and archives. She has also served as an archivist at the United States Senate; the National Archives and Records Administration; the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; the Troup County, Georgia Archives; the Atlanta Historical Society; and as an archives staff member at Georgia State University. She is the co-author of Baton Rouge, Arcadia Publishing, 2008 and Baton Rouge: An Illustrated History, Historical Publishing Network, 2006; and author of Baton Rouge Cemeteries, Arcadia Publishing, July 2012; The LSU Rural Life Museum and Windrush Gardens: A Living History, The History Press, 2010; Congressional Papers: Collecting, Appraising, Arranging and Describing, McFarland and Company, 1996; and Local History Collections in Libraries, Libraries Unlimited, 1995. She is editor for the West Baton Rouge Historical Association’s The History of West Baton Rouge Parish: People, Places, Progress, September 2012. Phillips is presently under contract to LSU Press as author of a history of the Louisiana State University marching band, 1893-2012. Phillips is Past-President of the Society of Southwest Archivists, the Louisiana Archives and Manuscripts Association and the Society of Georgia Archivists; and has served on numerous committees for those organizations, the Society of American Archivists, and others. In 2009 she was named a Fellow of the Society of Georgia Archivists and is a member of the Publications Board. She served as a member of the Louisiana Historical Records Advisory Board, 19962011. Phillips was a member of the inaugural class of the Academy of Certified Archivists. She is currently a member of the Louisiana Historical Association and Chair of the Archives and Records Committee. She serves as a grant reviewer for many agencies, national and local. She has served as project director for numerous state and national grants relating to archives, libraries, preservation, local history, and digital libraries. She was honored with a 2006 Preservation Award by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana. Phillips received BA and MA degrees in American History from Georgia State University and a Masters’ of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
