Quick Reference Guide
New Student Overview:
1. Enroll and schedule student
2. Verify HLS from registrar
3. Campus personnel administers the LAS Links Form A within 5 days of enrollment

5. Pre-fill using HLS & Gradebook
 LAS Links student profile sheet
 LAS Links answer book
6. Test (approximately 20 min for completion of test)
 Listening can be given in appropriate age GROUPS.
 Speaking is always given INDIVIDUALLY.
7. Score
8. Administer ITBS if applicable.

Student & teacher face each other:
1. Speaking
a. Student has LAS Links student book.
b. Teacher has Student Answer Book
c. Read instructions aloud.
d. TEACHER marks answers in Student Answer Book.
i. C – correct I – incorrect NR – no response
e. TEACHER transcribes student story.
i. Write down everything the student says for the story
ii. May record student story and then transcribe it later.
2. Listening
a. Student has BOTH LAS Links student book & Student Answer Book
b. Teacher has LAS Links examiner’s guide
c. Teacher plays CD.
i. Teacher can follow along in examiner’s guide.

3. Scoring
a. Teacher has Student Profile Sheet, Student Answer Book & Interpretation Guide.
b. Use Student Answer Book to complete the Speaking “Number Correct” section 2 of the
Student Profile Sheet.
c. Use the Interpretation Guide to score the listening portion of the Student Answer Book.
d. Transfer the listening scores to the Listening “Number Correct” section 2 of the Student
Profile sheet.
e. Transfer the “Total Speaking” & “Total Listening” (section 2) to the “Overall Score”
section 3 of the Student Profile Sheet.
i. Use the Interpretation Guide to complete the speaking and listening ‘Proficiency
Levels’ column.
f. Transfer the “Total Speaking” & “Total Listening” (section 2) to the “Oral” section 4 of
the Student Profile Sheet.
i. Use the Interpretation Guide to identify the ‘Oral Scale Score’ box.
ii. Write the level of the scale score above the ‘Oral Scale Score’ box.
g. Evaluate the individual speaking and listening score to determine if ITBS test is
necessary or if Newcomer program is recommended.
h. Comments to be written in the ‘Comments’ section may include: qualifies for ESL, ITBS
needed or Spanish testing recommended.
i. Use Student Profile Sheet to complete the LAS Links testing log sheet.
4. ITBS testing
a. ITBS testing is required for all 2-3 grade students who score a 4 or 5 on the oral
i. K-1 students who score 4 or 5 oral are Non-Leep
b. Call the testing warehouse and request the appropriate ITBS test.
i. This test must be given quickly so it can be returned to testing warehouse to be
scored and scores returned to the campus before the LPAC.
ii. ITBS must be administered by a certified teacher, it is timed and will take most
of the day to complete.
***ALL testing must be completed before the 20 day window for LPAC placement purposes.
Filing
1. LAS Links Student Answer Book and Profile Sheet should be filed in the orange LPAC folder
inside the permanent folder.
2. ITBS, if administered, is filed in the orange LPAC folder after LPAC.
