C. A short essay on "The Importance of Youth Leadership." Your essay should be completely developed
and no more than one page, double-spaced.
D. A short essay on the role student leadership should play in the continuous improvement of a school
and community (double-spaced, no more than one page).
E. In addition, have two teachers fill out the attached recommendation forms. All recommendation
forms must be returned to Mr. Roe by the teacher, NOT the applicant.
The essays and this application packet, completely filled out, should be turned
in to Mr. Roe by ____________________________, in a folder labeled with the
applicant’s name and grade level. No loose papers will be accepted.
Achaean 80 Description and Commitment
Achaean 80 Leadership Team is a select group of students that exemplify what it means to be a
Herron High School student and a world class citizen. As a member of this group, students are
called upon to set an example of behavior and service for all students, as well as represent
Herron High School at events on and off campus. Members have the ability to run for student
government and set the vision for the student body. Achaean 80 members are offered various
leadership and service opportunities, are expected to think of different ways to serve the
Herron High School and Indianapolis, and foster strong relationships between these two
communities. The following, basic expectations must be met by all members:

Abide by and exemplify the Universal Behavior Policies of Herron High School.
Maintain a 2.5 GPA
Attend all Achaean 80 meetings.
Be ready to speak about the school at community events.
Be an ambassador to prospective students, parents, and dignitaries while on campus.
Perform 60 hours of community service per year (including summer).
Participate in events sponsored or endorsed by Achaean 80, on and off campus.
If selected as a member of Achaean 80, I understand the expectations and duties of the
organization, and pledge to fulfil my obligations to the group, the school, and the community of
Indianapolis to the best of my abilities.
