LOSC Wins 2008 Short Course 11-14 State Championships! The 2008 Short Course 11-14 Championships was an amazing meet for the Lake Oswego Swim Club! Our contention of 33 swimmers earned a total of 836 points, resulting in LOSC winning the state title, which the Tualatin Hills Thunderbolts have held for as many as 30 years. LOSC also set 11 new state records (Oregon Swimming Inc.), and a USA Swimming National Age Group record! That's the second one for LOSC! Grace Carlson set five individual records in the Girls 12yr old events. In the 50 Free, she bettered the old record of 24.16, swimming 23.58. In the 100 Free, her time of 52.54 upset the old record of 53.14. Grace also lowered the 50 Back record by over a second, swimming 26.63 to 27.76. She demolished the 100 Back record; her time of 57.25 was more than two seconds faster than the old record of 59.64. Grace's final record came in the 50 Fly, swimming 25.85 compared to the old record of 26.50. Karen Turner set one individual record at the meet, bettering the Girls 14 100 Back record with a time of 56.20. LOSC was also responsible for five of the six relay records set at the meet. The highlight was the team of Karen Turner, Amy Wiley, Sarah Feil and Kemy Lin upsetting a USA Swimming National Age Group record! The Girls 13-14 200 Medley relay stood at 1:46.74 held by King Aquatics of Seattle. The LOSC girls bettered that 2004 record by over a second and a half by swimming 1:45.11. The old Oregon record for that event stood at 1:47.87, held by THSC from 2001. The same quartet set an Oregon record in the 400 Free Relay, swimming 3:33.35 to THSC's 3:33.88. Their final record was a 200 Free Relay record with a 1:35.32, bettering the 16 year old record of 1:36.72 held by THSC. LOSC’s boys set the final two records of the meet. In the 13-14 200 Free Relay, the team of Daniel Chen, Nick Four of the eight Individual High Point awards were taken by LOSC swimmers: Brenda Cha (11yr old girls), Grace Carlson (12yr old girls), Karen Turner (14yr old girls), and Daniel Chen (13yr old boys). Bode, Alex Lyons and Gunnar Wolfe swam 1:30.71, to better THSC's 2006 record of 1:32.28. The same quartet bettered the 200 medley relay with a 1:43.19, beating MHST's 2005 record of 1:44.38.
