BOMBERG - The Swiss Watchmaking Brand Defying Conformity Comes to the UK!
01 February, 2015: Having just launched in 2012 and headquartered in Neuchâtel, the centre of
the Swiss watchmaking industry, BOMBERG is the young Swiss watch company with the goal to
reinterpret and completely overturn classic watchmaking rules – and they are succeeding! This
year, 2015, will see BOMBERG emerge as a defiant, non-conforming, rebellious and provocative
brand within the UK market.
From the beginning BOMBERG set out to be different in the highly standardized world of
watchmaking with its audacious styling, innovative designs, and provocative ad campaigns. With
taglines such as “Toys for Boys,” “Be the Boss,” and “Unchain the Beast,” the advertising message
of BOMBERG uses both word and visual imagery to push the boundaries and grab your attention.
The campaigns are edgy and provocative with brand ambassadors and models sporting alternative
looks and tattoos.
The company’s ethos is bold, aggressive and champions non-conformity and masculinity.
BOMBERG is more than just a simple timepiece, but embodies a rebel lifestyle appealing to the
fashion forward man who is not afraid to make a statement. With this target audience in mind, it
is no surprise that fans of the brand include rock n’ roll legends and professional athletes such as,
rock legend Gene Simmons from KISS, Tommy Lee from Motely Crue, and hard rock guitarist Slash
from Guns N’ Roses. Famously tattooed Californian NBA player, Chris Andersen, became the
brand’s first ambassador, while footballers Neymar, Claudio Marchisio, Falcao and Angel Di Maria
have also sported the watches.
BOMBERG launched worldwide in 2013 in Basel, Switzerland with ambitious plans, and collections
are now available in over 20 countries including Europe, Middle East, Asia, Central and Latin
America. The watches are accessible and affordable retailing for between 450 GBP to 2850 GBP,
all taxes included. Currently, country stockists include Europe (Switzerland, Germany, France,
Italy, Austria, Spain); Central America (Mexico, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala); South America
(Argentina, Venezuela, Columbia, Peru); Middle East (Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain,
Lebanon, Jordan, Azerbaijan); Asia (Philippines, Pakistan).
Swiss made, strong, and unconventional, BOMBERG collections reinterpret and completely
overturn classic watchmaking rules to create unusual timepieces. The brand’s intention confirms
its ability to reinvent the image in this industry. Through its quality and the particular intention
given to every detail, the collections BOLT-68 and 1968 take the wrist watch to a new level
opening up new horizons for its trend-setting wearer.
THE 1968 COLLECTION
The 1968 is the iconic model of BOMBERG, representing the roots of the brand. The year 1968 is
in reference to one of the most significant years of the 20th Century which ushered in new social
parameters. Symbolic of the year, an era of great changes and innovations, the 1968 is
characterized by an atypical and unconventional design.
The 1968 comes in two models: The 1968 Quartz Chronograph measuring 39MM, and the 1968
Quartz Chronograph measuring 44MM. The asymmetric case of the 1968 allows for the watch to
follow the contours of your wrist, creating a snug and comfortable fit.
The watch has a retro inspired “Bullhead” configuration, meaning the crown and pushers are
positioned at 12 o’clock as opposed to at 3 o’clock like most watches, a design popularized back in
the late 60’s and early 70’s due to the popularity of motor sports. With 2 large chronograph
counters, a stainless steel casing with mineral crystal face, and a muscular design with a sporty
strap that has been perforated to give it a rally look, together these ingredients create a unique
timepiece with a retro look.
THE BOLT-68 COLLECTION
After 1968, BOMBERG introduced its second product line collection in 2014: the BOLT-68. The
collection’s name itself carries the entire brand DNA: “68” in reference to one of the most
significant years of the 20th Century, and “bolt” to emphasize the collection’s strength and
designed impact.
The most unique and disruptive aspect of the BOLT-68 is its transformative ability. Using an
ingenious bayonet system with a trigger guard – an exclusive system patented by BOMBERG – the
time-keeping module can be detached from its base and attached to a metal chain to be
transformed into a pocket watch. The chain differs quite a bit from the fine chains on the pocket
watches of yesteryear. As you will no doubt have realized, this tool is destined more for a pocket
on a pair of jeans than that of a gentleman’s waistcoat. All BOLT-68 collections include the chain
and medallion for turning your exclusive timepiece into a disruptive pocket watch.
Two versions of the BOLT-68 are available: The Bolt-68 Chronograph quartz models measuring 45
mm in diameter and powered by a Ronda caliber 3540D quartz movement, and The BOLT-68
automatic models measuring 47.5 mm and powered by a Concepto caliber 99001 automatic
mechanical movement. The Bolt-68 collection, includes 25 models in total, and are available in a
variety of stainless steel and PVD treated steel cases. The top-of-the-range model, the BOLT-68
Skull, has been produced as a limited edition with a black metallic chain whose links represent a
series of skull and crossbones.
The BOLT-68 mimics the “bullhead” configuration of its predecessor, and the case is embellished
with a band of crisscross knurling or a grenade-grip pattern in the mechanical model. The glass on
all BOLT-68 timepieces is a reinforced K1 mineral crystal with sapphire coating, and with a single
non-reflective coating, while the hand and markers feature a luminous treatment. All dials feature
applied markers with tachymeters printed on the flange, and the central second hand has a large
counterweight shaped like the brand’s logo.
