Rules and Conditions of Entry

There is a charge of £2.50 for First Aid.

All ridden horses/ponies must be 4 years old and over. The age of the horse/pony shall be calculated from 1 st January in the year of its birth.

Riders age: Juniors 17 years of age as of 1 st January 2015, Lead Rein 8 years as of 1 st January 2015.

Exhibitors are required by DEFRA to carry with them Passports for all horses/ponies when travelling or competing.

No horse/pony or rider may leave the ring without permission from the judge or steward. A fall of horse/pony or rider while mounted in any class will result in disqualification and must leave the ring dismounted. If a horse or pony gets loose from its rider/handler while in the ring it will result in disqualification. Horses/ponies showing continued disobedience may, at the discretion of the judge, be disqualified.

Correctly secured British Standard hats that meet current safety standards must be worn by riders/handlers 18 years or under. Anyone over 18 years old wishing to wear top hats or beaglers must produce a disclaimer and present it to the secretary when making entries, the organisers do not accept any liability for riders /handlers who submit a disclaimer and strongly recommend they wear a British Standard hat that meet current safety standards.

No earrings, piercings or visible jewellery should be worn. Mobile telephones or similar communication devices are not to be used in the ring.

Spurs of any sort are not allowed in the pony classes.

In Lead Rein and First Ridden classes the reins must be of normal length and should not be knotted or stitched in a loop. Reins must not be attached to the saddle. Handles are permitted on saddles. All Lead Rein and First Ridden ponies must be shown in a suitable snaffle bridle except for M & M First Ridden which may use any suitable bridle.

In all cases the judge’s decision is final. Anyone on the showground deemed abusive or unsportsmanlike will be asked to leave the showground.

No person, including exhibitors, handlers or grooms may enter the ring at any time without the judge’s permission.

When permission is granted to enter the ring a person must be suitably attired and wear a hat.

No entry to the ring when the judge has asked the class to trot.

A class is deemed to be over when the judge has given permission for the class to leave the ring.

Definition of a novice is no more than 4 firsts or 4 championship wins in one season.

In all novice classes a snaffle bridle must be worn, Wilkie snaffles are permitted.

No refunds will be given if you are unable to attend the show and have pre-entered or have missed classes due to lateness for whatever reason. Where we are to blame or for any genuine reason we may issue a credit note at the secretary’s discretion.

Competitors are responsible for arriving on time at their designated rings, the stewards are instructed not to hold classes. We cannot be responsible for classes clashing.

Objections are to be made in writing to the secretary within 30 minutes of the class ending, a deposit of £25 to accompany the objection which will be refunded if objection is upheld.

MARKING SYSTEM

1. Both ridden and in-hand classes will be marked as follows:

Performance & manners 50 marks

Condition for age, suppleness & turnout 50 marks In the event of a tie, the

‘condition for age’ mark will take precedence.

2. Marks are only awarded for walk, trot and canter. Any other movements will not be marked.

3. Over-weight or under-weight horses will be marked down.

Retired Racehorses and Mountain and Moorland may not be included in the combination classes due to the age and breed.

Supreme Final qualification must be received by the Society within 5 working days of the class and should any competitor(s) have previously qualified they may not accept qualification but hand it down to second or third reserve. If at a later date Qualification is found to be duplicate, both qualifications will be withdrawn from that competitor and they will need to re-qualify qualified from a VHS Area

Qualifier

Members only may enter any class providing they also have a

GREEN qualification card.

Grooms must be turnout in accordance to the VHS ruling, any groom not dressed correctly will be asked to leave the ring and marks deducted from the competitors score.

All ridden competitors will be expected to do a set individual show.

All competitors MUST show a GREEN qualification card to the steward before they enter the ring.

NO GREEN CARD NO ENTRY.

There is no exception to this ruling.
