CEDE TRUST FUND 2012 ESSAY COMPETITION
FOR 13–15 YEAR OLDS IN MALAWI, UGANDA AND NIGERIA
In line with her Mission of Helping young people to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities,
to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals,
CEDE Trust Fund is launching an annual essay competition. This competition will enable young
people think about the issues facing their countries and what they think can be done to remedy
the situation.
This maiden essay competition is targeted at young people between the ages of 13 and 15.
Candidates are expected to write on the topic: WHAT DO YOU THINK IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FACING
CHILDREN IN YOUR COUNTRY AND WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT?
The Essay-writing will be subject to the following rules

The Competition is open to young persons between the ages of 13–15 by the 30th of September,

Candidates must be residents of Malawi, Uganda and Nigeria

All essays must be written in English and be submitted either by email to
essaycompetition@cedetf.org or through the organisation’s website at www.cedetf.org

Essays should be about 750 words long

All entries must be validated by the details of a teacher, parent or guardian.

Each candidate may only submit one entry.

Latest day of submission of essays will be the 31st of August, 2012, by 11:59 pm.

Entries are liable for disqualification if they fail to meet the following criteria:
Has no date of birth.
Too long or too short in relation to the word count specification.
Has no name or signature of a teacher, parent or guardian.
Name of school, address, telephone and email (if not currently in school, please specify)

Winners of the Essay competition will receive the following prices aimed at supporting their
education for the next academic year:
First Price: £250, Second Price: £150, Third Price: £100
Some consolation prices for the 4th and 5th places.
All entrants must complete an entry form and agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the
essay competition or they would be disqualified, and prizes won could be withdrawn.
