Wheeling Jesuit University Physical Therapy Department 2012 Continuing Education Series Kinesiotaping KT1-2; Fundamental and Advanced Concepts (16 CEU’s) Presenter: Jimmy Welsh March 31- April 1, 2012; 8:00am – 5:30pm KT1 Fundamental Concepts, Screening/Muscle Test, & Muscle Applications (To be taken in conjunction with KT2) The KT1 course is designed to introduce practitioners to the Kinesio Taping® Method. Over the course of this 8 hour class, the instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio® Taping Method and the unique properties and use of Kinesio® Tex Tape. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice screening and muscle testing created for the enhancement of your KT skills and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio® Taping Method to relax overuse syndromes, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling. In addition to instruction provided by a Certified Kinesio Taping Instructor (CKTI), the attendee will receive 2 full-color Kinesio Taping® Workbooks (KT1 Workbook 1) to augment their training. KT2 Advanced Concepts & Corrective Techniques (Pre-requisite, completion of KTA approved KT1 course) The KT2 course builds on material learned in KT1. During this 8 hour class, the instructor will introduce the six Corrective Techniques (Mechanical, Functional, Space, Fascia, Ligament/Tendon, and Lymphatic) and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice applying these techniques to a variety of upper and lower body conditions. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the KT Method to orthopedic & neurological conditions. Attendees will receive Workbook 2 (KT Correctional Techniques and Clinical Applications) to augment their training. KT3 Kinesio® Taping Course with Extended Focus on Pediatrics/Neuro (12 CEU’s) (Pre-requisite, completion of KTA approved KT1 and KT2 courses). Presenter: Trish Martin June 2-3, 2012; 8:00am – 5:00pm (half day on Sunday) In this two day course on Kinesio® Taping (KT3) for Pediatrics/Neuro, you will discover how taping can apply to a variety of pediatric clients. Although the course has a pediatric focus, many of the applications are also effective in treating the adult neurologically involved client. The course will be comprised of lecture material, case studies and treatment demonstrations but will be primarily focused on practical applications for use with pediatric clients. This course is appropriate for PTs and OTs who would like to have a more advanced understanding of pediatric Kinesio Taping for immediate application into the clinical setting. What you will learn: ▪ How to determine when taping is appropriate for pediatric clients ▪ How to use taping as an adjunct to traditional and manual techniques ▪ How to incorporate taping into more effective home programs What you will do: ▪ Explore the pediatric applications of Kinesio Tape ▪ Practice applying Kinesio Tape for a variety of pediatric purposes ▪ Experience Kinesio Tape being applied on yourself ▪ Problem solve how to evaluate and effectively treat pediatric clients Note: Participants who successfully complete the required Fundamental and Advanced Kinesio Taping® (KT1, KT2, & KT3) courses are eligible to take the Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP) exam through the KinesioTaping Association (KTAI). Upon passing this exam with a score of 80% or better, practitioners will be granted the CKTP title along with all the associated rights and benefits. KT3 Kinesio® Taping course with Expanded Focus on Orthopedic Conditions (12 CEU’s) (Prerequisite, completion of KTA approved KT1 and KT2 courses). Presenter Jimmy Welsh August 25-26, 2012; 8:00am-5:00pm (dismiss half day on Sunday) This Kinesio Taping® Course reviews KT1 and KT2 coursework with extra lab time for attendees to practice their skills on a variety of clinical applications. KT3 can be designed to allow the instructor to cater towards specific practitioner protocols, clinical applications, and practitioner population and address specific professions, in this case a focus on rehabilitation of orthopedic conditions and sports injuries. This expanded KT3 course will incorporate unusual tapings, variations on standard tapings, and problem solving with a focus on rehabilitation and orthopedic conditions and advanced taping techniques for scar management. Note: Participants who successfully complete the required Fundamental and Advanced Kinesio Taping® (KT1, KT2, & KT3) courses are eligible to take the Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP) exam through the KinesioTaping Association (KTAI). Upon passing this exam with a score of 80% or better, practitioners will be granted the CKTP title along with all the associated rights and benefits. Students can request to take the exam but will not receive CKTP certificate until they graduate. Presenters: Jimmy Welsh is a physical therapist with a board certification in orthopedics. He specializes in various orthopedic conditions with emphasis on the integration of manual and medical exercise. He practices in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in a sports and orthopedic setting. He travels offering continuing education through Kinesiotape Patricia Martin is physical therapist who practices in pediatrics and neurologic populations. She has practiced with taping for 20 years, and is currently manager of satellite services at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. She specializes in lower extremity biomechanics splint fabrication, and taping in the treatment of children with orthopedic and neurological involvement. She has over twentyfive years of experience in private practice, hospital and clinic settings.
