Screening detects abnormalities in the breast tissue that cannot be detected by self examination. The screening programme is for asymptomatic women any women with symptoms should be signposted to their GP Bowel Screening RP003/HC Service Details Home test kit received through the post If results of the kit are abnormal the client will be invited for an appointment with a specialist screening nurse at a community clinic. The clinics are weekly and based in Skelmersdale, Euxton and Preston. The age expansion is gradually being rolled out across Central Lancashire so all women aged 53-70 should have been invited for screening every three years however the age for screening has recently being expanded to include women aged 47-73 so these women will begin to receive an appointment the next time their practice is screened. All men and women aged 60-75 will receive a test kit every two years. The test kits are sent to all men and women registered with a GP. A reminder letter and test kit is sent after 6 weeks if a client hasn’t returned the kit.
