By Mary Perrin
Americans celebrate the birth of the United States each year. They celebrate on
July Fourth. They honor this day by having barbeques with their friends and family.
They also watch fireworks. Celebrating Independence Day is one way to show
patriotism. Patriotism means to show your support to your country. People do many
things on this day. They display the American flag. They go to parades. They even wear
their red, white, and blue. The Declaration of Independence was signed by our
Founding Fathers in 1776. These were great leaders. These leaders helped Americans
become free of England's rules. A few of them are Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin
Franklin, John Hancock, and John Adams. England was making rules for people in
America. These men did not want to be ruled by England. They wanted to be a free
country and make their own rules. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July
4, 1776. This sent a clear message to England. It said England could no longer make
rules for Americans. Be thankful for your freedom. Celebrate this great nation by
showing your patriotism, not just on July Fourth, but every day!
