2pm: Ann Wheat Memorial Service
Ann, wife of Minister Emeritus Don Wheat, died September 15 th .
Ann Warren Wheat was born and raised in Leipsic, Ohio, daughter of Ferdinand and Theo
Warren. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957, the year she married Don
Wheat, now the Minister Emeritus at Third Unitarian. They lived in Rensselaer, Ind. and, for more than 50 years, in the communities of Austin on Chicago's Westside and suburban Oak
Park. Ann studied at the American Conservatory of Music and taught piano to Oak Parkers for
40 years before retiring to South Haven, Mich. in 2013.
Ann volunteered for years, serving the League of Women Voters, the Chicago Area Music
Teachers Association and Third Unitarian Church. Most recently, she volunteered with the
American Association of University Women and the South Haven Performance Series. She loved swimming, birds and the outdoors, sharing her love of nature with her many friends, her children, and grandsons.
Ann will be missed by friends and family. Her surviving family includes her husband, Don, their children, Mark, Andrew and Sarah, their children's spouses, Montse, Julia and Tim, and
their grandsons Micah, Emerson, Nicholas, Foster and Cormac. Ann's surviving family also includes her siblings, Kathy and Bill.

11am Celebration of Life Service
“Inviting the Self: Personal Practice: How inviting are we to our own soul?”
Minister Jennifer Nordstrom and Worship Associate Mandie McGlynn
Do we welcome all the parts of ourselves, or does an inner dialogue insist we are supposed to feel or be or act only in certain ways? We will explore welcoming your authentic self as a spiritual practice.
10am Forum
Book Club review: “Ghettoside: a True Story of Murder in America” by Jill Loevy .
“America’s black-on-black-crime problem isn’t going to be solved by black boys pulling up their pants or refraining from using the N-word or any of the other condescending solutions cable-news pundits have eagerly urged on the monolithic “black community” of their feverish imaginings. Our justice system can prevent blacks from killing blacks in the same way that it prevents whites from killing whites: by investing time, money, and police resources into proving that black people are valuable to our society—by extending them material and cultural support while aggressively investigating and prosecuting the perpetrators of their violent deaths.
Unfortunately, such a commitment is expensive and arduous, and it requires white Americans to admit that, in some ways, black-on-black crime is an outgrowth of historic white-on-black crime. It’s much easier to watch TV’s one hundredth Natalee Holloway special and tolerate cops who write off black murder victims as subhuman,” Book Forum.com. Deb Donovan to facilitate.
The Music Program with pianist and Music Director, Kyle Stephens, will blend instrumental and hymn selections with the theme of the morning’s service.

11am Celebration of Life Service “Hearing the Divine”
Minister Jennifer Nordstrom and Worship Associate Claire Callahan
The Divine often speaks in a still small voice, which we strain to hear. In order to invite the divine into our lives, we have to make room for it. We will examine what we need to do to hear the call of the divine.
