BCA
Seventh Grade
We will be using Microsoft Office 2007 Software for all of our creative
documents. We are not limited to the standards below, if times permits we will
cover more standards to better prepare computer software skills. We will always
refer back to what you learned in the 6th Grade BCA course. Get Ready!!
SAFETY AND ETHICS
The students will be able to:
Identify good work attitudes that affect safety on the job.
Identify major causes of office-related accidents.
Explain the consequences of illegal, social, and unethical uses of information
technologies.
Differentiate between freeware, shareware, and public domain software
copyrights.
Discuss computer crimes, terms of use, etc.
Identify potential abuse and unethical uses of computers and networks.
BASIC COMPUTER CONCEPTS
The students will be able to:
Identify and explain the components of a computer system.
Categorize software according to function.
Define computer terminology.
Demonstrate both cold and warm boots.
Define characteristics of LANs, WANs, MANs, and WIFI.
EMPLOYMENT SKILLS
The students will be able to:
Identify positive work practices (appropriate dress code for the workplace,
personal grooming, punctuality, time management, organization.)
Demonstrate positive personal skills (e.g., communication, respect and
teamwork.)
INTERNET APPLICATIONS
The students will be able to:
Explain net addresses.
Demonstrate the ability to use search engines.
WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS
Students will be able to:
Create word processing files/folders.
Save word processing files using Save and Save As.
Open word processing files/folders.
Print word processing files.
Create documents (e.g., tables, reports, flyers).
Format documents (e.g., tables, reports, flyers).
Edit documents (e.g., tables, reports, flyers).
Use cut, copy, and paste features.
Demonstrate the use of character formatting features (e.g., bold, underline,
italics, font styles and sizes).
Demonstrate the use of paragraph formatting features (e.g., tabs, indentations,
line spacing, enumerated/bulleted items).
Demonstrate the use of page formatting features (e.g., margins, alignment,
vertical placement, orientation, page breaks, headers, footers).
Demonstrate document editing using spell/grammar check, thesaurus, and word

Identify procedures for planning and creating a presentation (e.g., 6 x 6 rule,
complementary graphics, contrast, background).
Create new presentations from blanks and/or templates.
Insert, delete, edit, and copy slides.
Incorporate effective use of graphics, fonts, builds, animation, and transitions.
Change the layout for one or more slides.
Utilize print options (outline, handouts, notes pages, and pure black and white).
Deliver presentation in a professional manner

GRADING POLICY AND SCALE
All students are expected to learn to type using the touch method and to increase
their speed and accuracy as the semester progresses. This means focusing on
learning where the alphabetic keys are without looking at the keyboard. This
takes time and practice. Students are encouraged to practice at home if a
computer is available. We will use the keyboarding software available on the
school computers.
