2015 Audio Books Working List
Fiction
Buried Giant,* by Kazuo Ishiguro. OneClickdigital or 10 Discs. This work of fantasy/allegory by the
award winning author Ishiguro beautifully displays the breadth and depth of his writing. Wonderfully
read, I thoroughly enjoyed this melancholy tale (post King Arthur) of the fog of memory, loss, and
love. He writes of a beautiful and haunting medieval landscape with Anglos and Saxons and the
dragon Querig.
Nonfiction
Four Rooms, Upstairs,* by Linda Appleman. OneClickdigital. 2015. Appleman is an immigrant
daughter who grew up on the top floor of a small home in 1940’s Brooklyn, and struggled to
understand her mentally ill mother and her role as a child in the family. She later goes on to become a
psychotherapist (who marries the acclaimed audiobook narrator George Guidall)
Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania** by Eric Larsen. OncClickdigital or 11 Discs.
Larsen does not disappoint with his latest gripping narrative non-fiction on the last voyage of the
Lusitania including the social and political climate and tense early days of World War I. He brings the
people and the era to life.
Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty,* by Diane Keaton. OneClickdigital or 4 Discs. This book covers a lot
of territory: part memoir of early childhood and Hollywood success, part advice on beauty, parenting,
and aging in our culture, and part funny celebrity anecdotes.
Unforgettable,* Scott Simon. OneClickdigital. NPR’s weekend edition reporter Scott Simon has
written a moving tribute to his mother that was inspired by his viral tweets sent from the hospital
during her last days. This is a memoir with lively stories along with the sobering experience of coping
with a beloved parent’s death.
