MEDICINE AIDE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Take and pass the Arithmetic placement test (45+) in the
college testing center BEFORE registering for the program.
2. Purchase the textbook available at the College Bookstore.
3. Have a current CPR for Health provider certification.
4. Have a letter of recommendation from current Director of
Nursing.
5. Show proof of one year’s full-time experience as GNA. (Must
have “Active” status with Maryland Board of Nursing.)
6. Show proof of current employment in a Maryland nursing
home.
TEXTBOOK
Textbook is required at first class, “Medication Administration
(Deter). ISBN 978-1-4354-8172-5. They are available for purchase
in the College’s Bookstore located on the first floor of Largo
Student Center.
PLACEMENT TESTS
All students who register for the Certified Medicine Aide Program will
be required to take the Accuplacer arithmetic test. This test helps us
determine if the student has the ability to perform basic arithmetic
assignments at the level necessary to be successful in the CMA
Program. The Accuplacer arithmetic test MUST be taken before class
begins. If the test is not taken before class, the student will not be
permitted to begin. Students have two (2) times to pass this test. The
required score is: Arithmetic: 45.
Certified Medicine Aide
The Prince George’s Community College, Office of
Workforce Development and Continuing Education, awards
a Certified Medicine Aide Certificate to students who
successfully complete the Certified Medicine Aide (CMA)
course. The CMA program and the CMA Update course
are approved by the MD Board of Nursing.
CMA REQUIRED COURSE
HES325. Certified Medicine Aide
15 sessions, $830*
To be eligible for this course you must be:
 Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant
 Have one year’s experience
 Currently employed in a Maryland Nursing Home.
In this course, students will learn about the recognition, safe
preparation, administration and charting of non-parenteral
medications to clients. The course consists of theory and
supervised clinical experience at an area nursing home. 80
hours
HES365. Certified Medicine Aide Update
1 session, $90*
This course provides continuing education update required by
the Maryland Board of Nursing for renewal of Medicine Aide’s
certificate. Students must attend the entire session. Students
may register up to 2 months before their birthday. Students
must be listed on the Maryland Board of Nursing registry as
“active” and have a letter from the Director of Nursing when
registering. 8 hours
Note: All students must have both a TB clearance and a CPR for
Healthcare Provider card before entrance into the CNA clinical
portion of the program.
HES344 CPR FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS $65
This CPR course is specifically for healthcare workers. All
CNA students must have a CPR for Health Provider card
BEFORE attending the clinical portion of the program. Once a
CPR card is issued, the card is valid for 2 years. Textbook
