Kindred

You are first a member of the Camarilla, an ancient society of vampires which does its best to hide their existence from the world. Second, you are an executive of Augustus Holdings- a kindred-owned and staffed company that generates some of the Camarilla's funding. Some vampires scoff at the pursuit of money, but you understand that Ghouls don't feed themselves and all those leather trenchcoats, katanas, pistols, and limousines do not pay for themselves. It's important work, and you're part of the team.

Among Augustus Holding's many, umm, holdings, there's a company called West Wind

Chemical. West Wind Chemical (WWC) is based in Hong Kong, but it has research arms throughout Asia – including Shanghai. That's the trouble. Their Shanghai laboratory was on the verge of a huge breakthrough in the refinement of Tantalum. Specifics notwithstanding, this innovation is worth an estimated 16 billion dollars.

Eight days ago, somebody broke into WWC's Shanghai laboratory, killed 12 guards, and copied the files on the laboratory mainframe. This may just be the largest act of industrial espionage since the Rosenbergs, and no Mortal could have pulled it off. This is too important to leave for mortals to deal with. This requires the touch of the night.

There are very, very few vampires, Camarilla or otherwise, in China. Instead, the Middle

Kingdom is ruled by the Wan Kuei, the Kindred of the East – beings of the night like unto none.

They are profoundly hostile to the Kindred, and meetings between the two sides are scarce.

That's why it's so surprising that a major force within the Kuei-jin, the Blood Court of Beijing, immediately contacted Augustus Holdings to arrange a meeting.

The Kindred have rocked up to Beijing in force, here to deal diplomacy for the first time on this level in... well, forever. Make it count.

Your needs:

You need the perpetrators. Either they're surrendered to you, or the Kuei-jin prove that they've been dealt with, but there has to be punishment.

You need the copied files to disappear. The Kuei-jin have to destroy any copies that have been made to date, and prove it.

You need an assurance from the Kuei-jin that should any copies still be out there, the Kuei-jin will take charge of eradicating them.

You would like a serious token of apology for the murder of WWC's guards, damage to computers, and for the violation of Kindred property.

Win conditions:

The most important thing is that the Kuei-jin prove that the perpetrators are dead. In optimum circumstances, the Kuei-jin would somehow track down the perpetrators and give them up to the

Kindred. Failing that, it would be acceptable to just get material proof of their death in the form of flesh or media; although this would leave a poor taste in the mouth of your hungry superiors, which might be satiated with some currency. But returning with nothing but money and a half-

hearted apology will be your death. A treaty, even the potential of one is a definite plus and would gain you a fantastic repetition.

Kuei-Jin

You are a Kuei-jin, the supernatural aristocracy of the Middle Kingom. For ages measureless to man, your kind have ruled over the Sons of Han, reaching their fingers into every turn and event under Heaven. Your people have profound influence in politics, economics, academics, the arts, and the criminal underworlds of all China, as well as Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. The

Quincunx – the Five Courts of Beijing, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Chang'an – divide the land among themselves and provide China with a firm and stable hand.

Unfortunately, we live in fallen days, and the filthy big-nose Kindred – the vampiric beings of the West – have encroached upon your domain. In addition to their own countries, they control parts of Hong Kong and are always trying to sniff their way further into your territory.

You're not quite sure what exactly went down in Shanghai, but the Flesh Court of Suzhou immediately produced a perpetrator and requested mediation. The Blood Court was named by the ancestor to meet this threat, and masters of the international political hub of Beijing, have taken up the role of peace-maker.

The Kindred have shown remarkable courage in coming directly to Beijing, placing themselves directly in the power of those who could be their enemies. While it is certainly within your power to destroy them, peaceful compromise is certainly the less-expensive course of action. You must be gracious hosts, but don't forget your pride and dignity as a Kuei-jin. The Kindred, as everyone knows, aren't people – for after all, unlike yourselves, they don't have souls...

Your Needs:

This needs to be dealt with, swept under the rug with a little money and a warm meal if conditions were ideal. But more extreme measures may be necessary. While ignoring this is possible, business/trade and kindred/Kueijin relations would likely irreparably suffer as a result.

They will ask about the perpetrators, they will likely seek to punish them in their lands and courts. No KueiJin will willingly meet his final death away from his homeland AND at the hand of strangers. Their execution, however, is not out of the question. They are being held in the basement of this very hotel.

You have the only copy of the information stolen by the prisoner. It can be readily provided for them and destroyed. But it is very valuable, maintaining it would be profitable (maybe copy it or fake deletion) but those actions would be politically problematic if caught.

Provided you intend to turn over the stolen property, full cooperation is easily done. Anything you do wrong must be kept from the Kindred, who would likely break off all relations.

You have been provided a generous gift that can be given to the Kindred to placate them. Up to

$1.2million for their trouble. Although having them settle for less is preferred.

Win Conditions:

The most important thing is that this situation is solved during the course of this meeting. Having these creatures in Beijing under these circumstances is embarrassing. However, you will not kowtow to outrageous demands or disrespectful monsters. You are not their underlings, you do not need to subject yourself to their laws. The fate of the thieves has not been decided, but death is a real and likely possibility. Giving up your people, or failing to reach a conclusion would

probably result in your own execution. A treaty, even the potential of one is a definite plus and would gain you a fantastic reputation.

The Lovers Packet

On a beach in Malaysia, you found yourselves rapt in the beauty of a single pure moment. A

Model from China, nervous on the prospect of an unusual night-time photoshoot. Despite the lense between you, it was pure electricity. An artist meets their muse, you have been inseparable ever since. Your twin natures quickly became apparent, and part of your souls wept. They say there is no place in this world for lovers, but this is doubly true for you both. While you spend most of your lives travelling, everyone needs a place to call home. But home is a difficult place to choose.

While the kindred would accept you living with them, without permission its likely that the you will never be allowed to return to China

The KueiJin will not allow a kindred to publicly and fully live in China, under the current political situation. You might be tolerated, but your life would be lonely and on the outskirts of the court. Not to mention the loss of your status within the Camarilla.

Living alone anywhere, outside of both societies, would make you both blacklisted to your respective homes. You would be left alone, in your shared nostalgia.

The creation of a treaty between the kindred and the Kueijin would likely allow one of you live with the other as a representative. If you can make sure you are the lucky one chosen as a representative. Otherwise, running may be your only option.

Win Condition:

Relations between the kindred and the kuaijin improve to the point that one of you is permitted to live in the other’s territory. For Risa, this means being given permission to live as a representative of the KuaiJin within their city. For the KuaiJin, this means being allowed to live in China as a representative of the Camarilla and a member of the Blood Court.

'The Book' Packet

Kueijin Side

We've all heard the stories of the barbarian Zao-Lat, the demon from the west who stole the secrets of Xue and escaped the clutches of the thousand demons by fleeing like a coward, leaving his family behind.

His blood, flowing in secret monasteries and in the veins of his fellow thieves, continues to be a thorn in our side as well as a constant reminder that these creatures are not to be trusted. The WuZao are an accommodated abomination.

While performing routine surveys for mining operations in Inner Mongolia, workers unearthed a book simply called Xue.

The book cannot be opened, efforts to remove its magic or tamper with its locks have resulted in nothing but frustration. It is not of our hands, but forged in the dark halls of our enemies.

That is why they are being brought here, their superiors know of its existence and those who label themselves “Tremere” claiming to be the conquerors of the Barbarian Zao-Lat have expressed vested interest in acquiring this book and its secrets.

Under no circumstances is the book to be handed over, such an act would constitute an act of treason punishable by the Thousand Deaths.

However, sharing its knowledge is not out of the question as it seems they may be the only ones capable of its opening.

Finding one so inclined, whether monetarily or otherwise persuaded, remains the preferable option.

Kindred Side

The ancient Saulut was the first of our kind to reach these shores, and it goes without saying that he did not make a favorable impression. He is hated, and labeled a thief for seeking the counsel of their great prophet Xue.

Those of Sauluts blood from this time are few and even harder to find, but they story the tell differs greatly from that of the Kueijin. He was welcomed in the halls of Xue, taken as an apostle and willing taught the great secrets. He was chased from his home, without reason. Knowing our kind, both stories appear equally possible.

The book unearthed in Mongolia promises a great find, on par with the Dead Sea

Scrolls in importance and risk it poses to long-standing kindred institutions.

Why, knowing that we are on our way out of Asia having been forced through multiple means and overwhelming force, they would choose this moment to allow us to come to this place. So near to this treasure and so willing to share.

Acquiring the knowledge held within is top priority, the knowledge must be taken to the halls of Tremere, keeping this knowledge from those remaining Salubri is also important.

Simply taking the book is a possibility but one that carries some risk, relationships between the two would be forever soured and the chance of final death uncomfortably high.

Destruction of the book is also out of questions. Failure in this regard, is not an option.

The book labeled simply as “Xue” manifests as a simple scroll from the pre-dyanastic period.

The ends are gilded jade, intricately carved and the side bears the seal of Salut in red wax. The tip of the paper which bears the seal is written. Knowledge flows like Blood from Jade in Chinese

If Opened, A warning graces the first section:

Continue you who are found worthy

Continue if you believe yourself to be.

For the path is fraught, the path will wind.

What many have sought, few will find.

ST Section:

Inspections of the book, a a relatively high level, will reveal the relative age and a high level of craftsmanship. Basic analysis of the seal with thaumaturgy will reveal and unknown spell linked to blood present in the seal. Just smelling the seal will reveal the presence of vitae. All attempts to open the book will fail or succeed only in damaging the outer case. If blood from a kindred of the salubrie clan is dripped onto the seal, it will release.

If the seal is released, an immediate time-stopped is called for next 15min. It is imperative that the time stop does not last more then 30min, as the aftermath will likely take an hour to deal with. If game is slotted to end in the next 30min, then the player is given the decision of how the scene would end. Possible results are listed below.

The player or players who read the next section of the text are separated from the other players for a individual scene and appeared to everyone else to be in a very short trance. The char is transported to a black plane, ala dreamland or the Abyss. Players are asked to choose an embodiment for their p'o or beast. If they cannot think of one, then an appropriately evil looking version of themselves or a giant monster essentially the opposite of their archetype or an image for their p'o archetype. They will feel an immense calm, be at full blood but not will.

Characters are given free choice how to precede:

 conversation will result in the beast attempting to anger them with threats and insults, and checks run as below. If the players attacks, checks remain the same but descriptions change into a physical brawl.

Attack will be met with a physical brawl; check will remain the same (as stated below), as this is more a physical visualization of a mental battle, but

Silence and calm, will make the beast do the same. He will attempt to mock and incite the players, and the willpower roll in the same but players who initially chose silence will gain a free retest.

Mocking will continue, what for the character will seem like millennia, but will follow the below formula.

For Kindred:

Its a series of static checks, willpower to retest, challenge equal to ten minus their humanity path rating. Vampires on any other path will need 10 successes. Willpower remains the same as it was before the time-stop.

With each success, the player will see their beast seem to weaken and diminish; with every loss, they will feel the same happening to themselves. Unless an attack was made, then “ST descriptions will shift to each success being a hit on the creature and each failure being a hit on the player”

Possible Results for Kindred

If reduced to zero willpower, the beast will cackle maniacally and consume the character.

The trance will be broken and they will enter wassail.

Time-stop will remain as combat rounds begin, the beast taking first initiative.

If character gets the needed successes, the players will subdue the beast and achieve Golconda.

The beast subdued, they can re-enter human society on minimal blood and no power caps.
