MEETING AT A GLANCE
The Kentucky/Tennessee Branch of ASM (KY/TN ASM) is an approved provider of continuing
education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences through the American Society of Clinical
Laboratory Science (ASCLS) P.A.C.E.® program. Attendees have the opportunity to earn up to
6.0 contact hours by attending the entire conference. Attendance rosters must be signed in
each attended session that credit is requested for and the P.A.C.E.® certificate must be signed
and certified by the KY/TN ASM P.A.C.E.® administrator (or their designee) at the end of your
time at the conference. Lectures denoted in RED are eligible for P.A.C.E.® credit.
The Kentucky-Tennessee branch of the American Society of Microbiology exists to unify
microbiology specialties and subspecialties within the area of these two states.
The $15 registration fee includes access to all lectures and activities at the 2015 annual meeting
as well as a one year membership to the KY/TN Branch of ASM. (waived if you are a current
branch member)
An additional $10 is required if you are requesting a P.A.C.E. certificate.
Registration may be paid at the meeting.

Participants will gain insight into a customer focused culture in the workplace. This session will
examine the behaviors that provide excellent customer service and explore its impact on the
organization.

Identify behaviors associated with excellent customer service.

Human Resources in the Lab: Managing for Performance
This session will describe the differences in employees as adult learners. Participants will gain
insight into employee personalities and learning styles. Participants will understand how to
adjust teaching styles based on the employee’s performance level for the task and learning style.
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
1. Classify an employee’s learning style
2. Determine the appropriate teaching style
3. Develop a teaching plan to match the employee’s performance level and learning style

This session will describe primary purpose and characteristics of a laboratory budget. Participants
will gain perspective on the process of developing a budget. Participants will be aware of many
important cost and options to consider while developing their own laboratory budget.

2. Develop a process in order to budget for their laboratory’s needs

Description: This session will look at the changing picture of screening for Trichomonas. Participants
will gain insight into the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, risk factors, transmission, treatment and
diagnosis of T. vaginalis. In addition, participants will learn the verification process that would be
necessary to incorporate screening into their particular settings.
At the end of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. Review the epidemiology, prevalence, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, risk factors,
transmission, and diagnosis for T. vaginalis.
2. Discuss the CDC STD Treatment guidelines related to T. vaginalis
3. Discuss the verification process necessary to bring a new test for T. vaginalis into your laboratory

Pre-Analytical Assessment: You Best be Aware of it’s Importance

Description: Pre-Analytical is vital in every aspect of what we do as medical laboratorians.
Pre-Analytical stages require accuracy in order for provider to diagnose and treat thoroughly.
This presentation will highlight some of the common pre-analytical errors seen in a clinical
laboratory setting and will offer solutions to eliminate these common errors.
At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
1. Understand the critical dynamics of the pre-analytical phase
2. Identify common pre-analytical errors
3. Develop methods to eliminate pre-analytical errors
