Essay Reflection
Doing well on essays is very important. In this essay I did well on using transition words in
every paragraph. In my other essays I often left them out because I could not figure out where to
use them correctly. To do well on an essay you have to use all the skills and different types of
good writing. Because I used transition words, I feel that I used all the skills of good writing I
have been taught this year as well as other years. Once Sentence I used a transition word in is
“certainly Sojourner Truth lived a long, important life”. Certainly, doing well on essays is
important.
Every paragraph of and essay should show good writing in it. In my essay I think that my
second paragraph shows good writing. I think this because I used all the different kinds of
sentences and had good word choice and great transitions at the end. I think my second
paragraph, my favorite paragraph, was very well written and show good writing throughout it. I
used good word choice. Instead of the word “a lot” I used the word “heavily”. Therefore, good
writing is important.
Every essay you write, you should improve on from the last one. My next essay, which I
will write in a few weeks, I will improve on explaining details a little more in depth so the reader
can understand how or why things happened and what it was like during that time period. I think
I could have gone in depth on my first paragraph more than I did. Clearly, improving on your
writing is important.
Grading yourself on your essay can help you become a better writer. As the reader of this
essay I would give myself a high B because it is a great essay and very informative about the
individual’s life. This essay is very enjoying reading. I really enjoyed reading the first paragraph
about the events in Truth’s life and I enjoyed the second paragraph as well. I got done reading
my essay and as a result I wanted to learn more. Unquestionably, grading yourself is important.
Self-assessment is a great learning tool to use. As the writer of this essay I would give
myself and A. Academic effort is putting everything you have into learning and the school work
that you do. You have to be willing to work hard to get your work done. I gave myself an A
because I put a lot of effort into this essay both at school and at home. I think this is one of my
best essays and favorite essays I have written. I spent a lot of time correcting this essay and
editing and revising this essay to make it good, so it would be good writing. I put a lot of effort
into this essay and I am very happy with how it turned out. No doubt, self-assessment is a great
learning tool.
