Earth Day 2015 is fast approaching! Harvard EHS and SEAS will be offering a school-wide

Chemical Clean-Out and Amnesty Day. Unwanted chemicals will be collected, removed from your lab, and available for swap in this effort to Green our Labs.

What we need from you between now and April 1 st :

Identify any unwanted chemicals by pre-registering with EHS.

Mark bottles with EHS provide circle stickers, and put them in a designated pick-up spot within the laboratory.

EHS will coordinate the hazardous chemical waste vendors to remove bottles from lab spaces.

New un-opened chemicals with reuse potential will be available for an open swap before the remainders are removed from campus.

1 st Annual Campus Wide Chemical Clean-Out Amnesty Day

March 12th – April 5th. Labs pre-register for the amnesty day. Fill out attached preregistration spreadsheet and forward to Harvard EHS.

Info needed: a.

Pickup location for chemicals (Bldg, room, and bench or fume hood location) b.

Point person contact info to meet the waste tech when they come to get the chemicals c.

Estimate # of bottles to get rid of, size/volume info if available

Bottles DO NOT need a HazWaste tag, just a sticker.

April 6: Mark bottles for pick up, submit final bottle counts if amounts are different than pre-reg estimates. Submit any updates via the pre-reg spreadsheet to Maryam.

Cut-off date to add a large clean-out is April 10, 2014

Monday, April 27 th : Pick up Day. i.

Hazardous waste technicians come and pick up any unwanted chemicals from the pick-up location identified in pre-reg. ii.

The chemicals will be segregated by type and unopened/unexpired chemicals will be available on Weds in designated staging areas (tbd).

Tuesday, April 28 th : Labs will be able take any chemicals that they can use from designated staging areas (tbd).

April 29 th –April 30 th : Hazardous waste company will pack and ship the unwanted chemicals.
