Creighton Center for Service and Justice Graduate Assistantship
General Description
This position is part of the CCSJ Team working to implement our mission to engage students in community service, reflection and action on behalf
of justice and sustainability as an integral part of their Jesuit, Catholic university education. As one of six departments within Creighton University
Ministry, the CCSJ fulfills this mission through direct service, justice education, Ignatian advocacy, forming leaders, and building community. The
CCSJ Graduate Fellow will be supervised generally by the CCSJ Director and specifically by the Associate and Assistant Directors depending on
programming responsibilities.
Responsibilities

11-12 month per year position approximately July 2013 – May 2015 (10 months possible; depends on desire to work over the summer)

Expected to work 20 hours per week understanding that, due to the nature of this ministry, there may be weeks above or below the hours
listed; evening and weekend hours are frequent; generally follows Creighton staff work calendar

Possible areas of responsibility (depending upon experience and interests of the Graduate Assistant and needs of the CCSJ) may include but
are not limited to the following:
o Assisting in administration and development of the Service and Justice Trips program over fall and spring breaks, Ignatian
Family Teach-In for Justice, and other service, justice, and Ignatian advocacy programming
o Promoting the mission and programs of the CCSJ through the Communications Team, website, social media, etc.
o Collaborating with other departments and organizations on and off campus

Remuneration

Full tuition in graduate studies (cap of 46 credit hours based on the Master of Arts in Ministry) for a Master of Arts in Ministry, Theology,
or Christian Spirituality.

Partial tuition is possible for other academic programs, such as the Master of Science in Negotiation & Dispute Resolution from the Werner
Institute. Please speak with the Director of the CCSJ if you are interested in such alternatives.

Monthly stipend of $1,000 per month. Student is responsible for books, fees, and health insurance.

Opportunities to participate in Service and Justice Trips and Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, DC and professional
development at select conferences such as the USCCB Social Ministry Gathering (also in DC) with costs covered

A separate, graduate peer minister position providing room and board (living and ministering in an undergraduate residence hall) is
possible depending on interest, qualifications, and Department of Resident Life needs.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a G.P.A. that meets the graduate admission requirement

Knowledge of, experience in, and enthusiasm for service, faith, peace, justice, and sustainability ministry programs

Community-oriented, hospitable, strong in balancing multiple tasks, culturally competent, at ease working with diverse groups

Excellent interpersonal and time management skills, ability to articulate own faith, passionate desire to serve college students

A year or more of post-graduate work or volunteer experience preferred but not required
Academic & Student Responsibilities

A CCSJ Graduate Assistant must work with program academic advisor to be enrolled in appropriate number of hours of graduate course
work and maintain the required Q.P.A. in her/his graduate field of study.


contacted for a phone/Skype and/or on-campus interview after their application is received. Final acceptance for the CCSJ Graduate Assistantship is
contingent upon successful admission into a Creighton University graduate studies program (http://www.creighton.edu/gradschool/).
