Prime Numbers
Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally
A prime number is a number that is only
divisible by 1 and itself. Numbers that are not
prime are called composite numbers. The
smallest prime number, which happens to be
the only even prime number, is 2. The prime
numbers from 2 to 100 are listed below and
should all be memorized.
P = (parentheses) solve everything in parentheses first
E = exponents ex: 32 then exponents
M = multiplication D = division solve in the order
they appear from left to right
A = addition S = subtraction
solve in the order they
appear from left to right
18 + 4 ÷ 2 + 6 X 5 divide and multiply first
18 + 2 + 30
=50
18 ÷ (6 + 3) + 7 – (3 X 5) parentheses first
18 ÷ 9 + 7 - 15 divide next
2 + 7 – 15 finally add and subtract
= -6
