Open PhD in Simulation of Pneumatic Conveying
The Christian-Doppler Laboratory on Particulate Flow Modelling at the Johannes
Kepler University Linz, Austria together with the international CFDEMproject
( www.cfdem.com
) intends to strengthen their research focus by a new PhD thesis on
Numerical Simulation of Pneumatic Conveying of Powders : Coupled continuum and discrete particle simulations; model implementation in an open source environment (O penFOAM®, CFDEMproject); numerical representation of typical conveying regimes; simulation of powder distributors and buffer fluidized beds; validation by dedicated experiments (which are conducted by another concurrent PhD); application to pulverized coal injection and to concrete spraying.
Our prospective PhD student will be embedded in a team of 20 researchers (6
PostDocs) who represent the core of the open source based international CFDEM community. Salary will account to about
2.45
0€/month 14 times a year and this PhD will start at the Beginning of 2013 . The typical duration of such a thesis is 3-3.5 years.
We are looking for students in the field of physics, mathematics or engineering science . Candidates should have gathered experiences in programming (preferentially
C,C++), numerical simulations and validation.
Interested candidates are required to prepare a two page application : While the first page should contain information on the applicant (Name, photo, date of birth, email, academic career, titles of selected projects and publications) the second page should contain an abstract of the applicant’s Master thesis (or equivalent research project).
This short application is due to 31th of October 2012 and should be sent by email
(pdf file) to phd@cfdem.com
