Comp 105 4 October 2010 Music is My Life Weezer -In the Garage: “In the garage, I feel safe. No one cares about my ways.” The garage happens to be a place I spend a lot of time inside of with my friends. When I was ten we used to turn the garage into a roller-skating arena and skate in circles while playing Britney Spears in the background. As I got older it became a place to chill out and listen to music with my friends. One day, my friends and I got very bored while in the garage and decided to light some paper on fire using the gasoline her mom had been storing for the lawn mower. My friend dipped it inside of gasoline and set it on the floor. Some of the gas from the paper dripped off and made a trail all the way to her shoe. We did not notice that at the time until I lit the paper and that trail when up in flames. The tip of her shoe caught on fire so we took a towel that was hanging on one of the chairs and patted it out. After that we agreed no more fire in the garage or else we would have no garage to hang out in. Weezer-Pink Triangle: “I'm dumb, she's a lesbian I thought I had found the one” “We were good as married in my mind, but married in my mind's no good” My best friend, Mary Jane, came out about two years ago and told me as well as my friends that she was a lesbian. It was very weird at first because I had never had a gay friend before and was a bit homophobic. I had known her for so long and was not going to give up on our friendship because of it and I eventually got used to it. My friend tony, completely aware of this had a huge crush on her and asked her out. She said I’m gay but we can try and see if it will work. After four months of going out, Mary Jane comes up to me and says “I can’t take it! He likes me too much, he is very clingy and he really wants to go long term” I told her “You can’t pretend to be someone you’re not, and you are not straight so you need to break this off before he gets even more attached.” . Realizing that she could no longer have anything to do with guys anymore she broke up with him, but told him she wanted to be friends. I really did think he thought they were married in his mind. He took it hard; he was calling me and another friend up on the phone about it in tears. He was also getting drunk to cast away his misery, only to make things worse. Lesson learned: If you are a guy and a girl tells you she is gay, move on! There are many other fish in the sea. Weezer- El Scorcho: “I'm a lot like you so please Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting I think I'd be good for you and you'd be good for me.” It was junior year at Divine Child High School. I had gone out with a boy in my class named Kyle. I thought we were perfect together. We liked similar music, we got along with each other’s family and we got along very well with each other. He would sometimes write me letters which I thought were cheesy but cute at the same time. As time went by I noticed he had anger management problems. He got made at simple stuff like his dad telling him to clean the dishes. I also noticed the people he thought were his friends were talking about him behind his back but when I told him he didn’t believe me. Eventually he started making up stuff about me and him doing things together and told the whole and he cheated on me on top of it. I broke up with him and it was like the whole situation flipped; he thought we were made for each other and couldn’t break up. He made desperate calls to get me back and would message my siblings on Face Book to see if they would persuade me into going back out with him. It was a rough break up and he ended up making me hate him because he spread more rumors about me at school. Come to find out a year later he asked another girl out and when she said no he squeezed an orange over her head. Turns out karma came back around to bite him in the butt. Weezer -Can’t stop partying: “Party like tomorrow is my funeral” It was prom night, senior year of high school. My friend Mary Jane had me and two other friends over after prom. We had a bon fire in her backyard. Her mom wasn’t home yet so we were pretty loud and obnoxious. My friend Kaitlyn who was there was not allowed to spend the night because her mom found out Mary Janne was a lesbian and thought Kaitlyn spending the night would be inappropriate and was going to get her at 1:30am. Meanwhile, we are all in the backyard having the time of our lives when her mom pulls up in the driveway and drives through the fence. Turns out she had gotten drunk at one of her friends house. Kaitlyns mom kept calling her phone telling her she is going to get her and Kaitlyn says “I’m at a boy’s house from Crestwood and I’m not coming home”. Kaitlyns mom then says “If you don’t tell me where you are I’m going to Julia’s house and waking everybody up! Maybe they can tell me where you’re at!” Kaitlyn gives up and tells her mom she is at Mary Janes. When Mary Jane’s mom finds out she tells us to hide in the basement. Kaitlyns mom finally shows up and Mary Janes mom, still very drunk goes out and yells at Kaitlyn’s mom, calling her a f***ing b****. Kaitlyn’s mom goes on to say that Mary Jane is sick because she is gay. After a half hour of insults, the mothers say goodbye with their middle fingers and we all go inside. Her mom tells me that she doesn’t get why Mary Jane is gay and I had a half hour conversation with her mom about it. Watching my best friend go through so much just because she is gay is just terrible. Having to come out to your parents is one thing but having your friends banned from you because of it, which is what happened to me and Mary Jane is unacceptable. She has been a big part of my life and we have had the best of times together. If I ever want to see her now, I have to make sure my dad doesn’t find out. Getting along seems almost impossible today but “There will come a day when we transcend our pain, until that day, take it easy on yourself.” (Weezer: Love is the Answer)
