Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario Held Annual Celebration of Excellence Event at Ottawa City
Hall
October 30, 2013 – Ottawa: Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario held its annual Celebration of
Excellence event yesterday at Ottawa City Hall - Jean Pigott Place.
The non-profit organization took the opportunity to announce that $190,500 was raised this year in
Eastern Ontario through Parkinson SuperWalk.
“We are so pleased with the way that our communities have come together to support families living
with Parkinson’s in Eastern Ontario. Despite a slower economy and the impact of public service layoffs,
Parkinson SuperWalk in Eastern Ontario raised a record amount for our region. That says a lot about the
dedication of local champions and volunteers,” says Dennise Taylor-Gilhen, Chief Executive Officer,
Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario.
Parkinson SuperWalk is the largest national fundraising event for Parkinson Society Canada and its
regional partners like Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario.
Moreover, regional corporate sponsor, Enbridge Gas Distribution presented Parkinson Society Eastern
Ontario with a $25,000 check.
“We couldn't be more pleased with this generous donation, which clearly demonstrates Enbridge's
commitment to the community,” says Sprague Plato, Chair, Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario. “This
donation will provide welcome relief and support to people with Parkinson's disease and their
caregivers throughout Eastern Ontario."
The substantial donation has demonstrated Enbridge Gas Distribution’s support for the society and the
Parkinson’s community at large.
“We are proud to provide Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario with this $25,000 gift,” says
Michael Wagle, Director, Operations, Enbridge Gas Distribution. “These funds will provide
support to patients and families who need it most, and we’re proud to support organizations
like this that help build healthy communities.”
Attendees of the event included Parkinson Society Canada National Research Program recipients like Dr.
David Park, professor and assistant dean of research , University of Ottawa, Dr. Tohru Kitada, adjunct
