Knox Church Christchurch Order of Service 23 November 2104 WHEN DID WE SEE YOU? WELCOME TO KNOX Knox Church is a congregation within the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand. We aim to create Christian community in which people of all ages, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds and socio-economic situations are included as equally valued participants in our congregational life. We cherish our diversity, offering a safe place of belonging to any who wish to explore their beliefs in an atmosphere promoting discussion, the development of healthy relationships and spiritual growth. We strive to be open to dialogue and shared experiences with people of other faiths. We enjoy worshipping the God made known in Jesus, endeavouring to do so in ways that are relevant to our daily lives, respect the integrity of creation, and make a positive difference to our wider world. A loop system for hearing aids operates at Knox The Call to Worship: We light a candle in the name of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. JESUS, WHOSE REIGN IS WONDERFUL; JESUS, WHO SAYS “YOUR HAVE SEEN ME”; JESUS, WHO CONFRONTS US IN THE FACES OF THE POOR, THE HUNGRY AND THE COLD. WHAT ARE WE TO DO? Kia noho a Ihowa ki a koutou. God be with you. MA IHOWA KOE E MANAAKI. GOD BLESS YOU. Hymn: Diademata George Job Elvey (1816-1893) 1. Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon the throne; hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own: awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for me, and hail him as your chosen king through all eternity. 2. Crown him the Son of God before the worlds began: and we who tread where he hath trod crown him the Son of Man; who every grief has known that wrings the human breast, and takes and bears them for his own that all in him may rest. 3. Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a sceptre sways from pole to pole, that wars may cease absorbed in prayer and praise: his reign shall know no end, and round his piercèd feet fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet. 4. Crown him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres, majestic and sublime: all hail, Redeemer, hail! for you have died for me; your praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity. Matthew Bridges (1800-1894) and Godfrey Thring (1823-1903) alt. Prayer of Approach . . . Lord have mercy. CHRIST HAVE MERCY. Lord have mercy. Assurance and Response . . . There's a spirit in the air, telling Christians everywhere: "Praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working in our world." 2. Lose your shyness, find your tongue; tell the world what God has done: God in Christ has come to stay, we can see his power today. 3. When believers share their bread when a hungry child is fed: praise the love that Christ revealed living, working in our world. 4. Still his Spirit leads the fight, seeing wrong and setting right: God in Christ has come to stay, we can see his power today. 5. When a stranger's not alone, where the homeless find a home, praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working in our world. 6. May the Spirit fill our praise, guide our thoughts and change our ways: God in Christ has come to stay, we can see his power today. 7. There's a Spirit in the air, calling people everywhere: praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working in our world.
