Aside from the obvious choice of banning all nut based products from school, here is
what we learned IS effective:
We tested a disinfectant cleaner for the removal of peanut butter. Found that there
were levels of peanut oil remaining on the surface. It required a good
cleaner/degreaser type product to remove these oils. It would be necessary to use a
cleaner or pot and pan detergent type product and then follow-up with a food contact
sanitizer. To remove peanut butter and its oils would require a product that has
potential to break down oils and greases. Disinfectants are not good at removing
these types of soils.
