PRS is a society of songwriters, composers and music
publishers. They license organisations to play, perform or
make available copyright music on behalf of their members,
and those of overseas societies, distributing the royalties. It is
the responsibility of a local authority to obtain a Music Licence
for musical performances at its premises, regardless of
whether the authority or a third party provides the music.
PPL licenses the use of recorded music played in public or
broadcast on the radio, TV and on the internet. PPL collects
and distributes licence fees for the use of recorded music on
behalf of record companies and performers.
The PVS licence allows entitles holders to screen unlimited
films from participating studios (Disney, Warner Bros etc) for a
set annual fee to a non-paying audience.
The MPLC represents smaller independent studios (Christian
Films, National Geographic etc). The Umbrella licence is
therefore similar to the PVSL but it is not required when
screening for educational purposes.
