A Little Goes a Long Way… Please Consider Helping the Arrowhead PTA Emergency Preparedness Fund Did you know that if there were a major catastrophe that occurred during the school day, it is estimated that 50% of the student population would need to stay at school overnight? The hope would be that all buildings remain intact, but there is a chance that the students and staff would need to be outside. Over the past decade, the PTA has spent thousands of dollars making sure we have tents, tarps, first aid supplies, propane tanks/stoves, food, water pouches, extra gloves and countless other supplies for every student and staff member. In 2011, the PTA purchased 7 special radios for $1,500 so that Arrowhead can communicate directly with the school district frequency during a catastrophe. There is a team of Staff and PTA that evaluate what emergency supplies are currently on hand and are still needed to keep our community safe. Here are some of the items on the emergency prep wish list. More radios so that key staff would each have their own. Cost - $200+ each Heavy lifting tools and stretchers for searching collapsed buildings Funds to replenish the food supply which expire every 3 years Wood to further build out the new container so we can hang search and rescue supplies from the walls. Our 2012 Ask Is… just $5 from every student Student’s Name:___________________________ Teacher: ______________________________ ________ I would like to donate $5 ________ I would like to donate an additional amount $___________ ________ I would like to sponsor one of the radios in my child’s name ($200) Please make checks payable to Arrowhead PTA and send into school with your child during the month of May. Cash is fine too! Donations are tax deductible and also eligible for company matching. Here is a picture of the new emergency prep container that is located behind the kindergarten classrooms on the baseball field. This container contains all the supplies for the classrooms. New this year, we put the supplies in clear bins so we knew what was in them. The goal is to make the teacher’s life as easy as possible so they can focus on their students and keep everybody calm.
