1. Title of educational activity – Prostate MRI and MR-Guided Intervention 2. Lecturer Bernadette M. Greenwood , BSRS, RT (R)(MR)(ARRT) 3. Summary / Outline of Educational Activity - what will be addressed in this activity. 1. Introduction (11:00) 2. Literature Review 3. Overview of mpMRI 4. MR-Guided Intervention 5. MR-Guided laser focal therapy 6. Q&A 4. Learning Objectives - 2-3 short statements/sentences describing what attendees will learn. After participation in this presentation, attendees will understand the role of MRI when properly inserted in the diagnostic work up of men with suspected prostate cancer. They will be able to discuss the evolution of prostate biopsy, benefits and drawbacks of various techniques and the basics of implementation of an MRI-based prostate program. Participants will be exposed to a novel approach for MR-guided focal laser therapy utilizing a transtrectal approach. 5. Practice Gaps- a short statement identifying the "Practice Gaps" that may exist. (Why this learning activity is necessary to assist imaging professionals in better understanding the value of Prostate MR). Helpful if there is any literature to reference this 'gap' in understanding. Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) of the prostate gland can yield valuable information in patients with rising or elevated serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. In some cases, patients present with multiple negative trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) biopsies, often placing the patient into a cycle of active surveillance. Recently, more patients are undergoing MRI-guided biopsy for targeted biopsy of suspicious findings with a cancer yield of ~59% compared to 15% for second TRUS biopsy to solve this diagnostic dilemma and plan treatment.
